Yeah, my D must be listed as a junior on some list somewhere, because she is getting a lot of recruiting emails all of the sudden. Too late coaches, too late.
We have been getting correspondence from schools still. We got a huge booklet from our flagship state school a couple of days ago. 3 months after withdrawing D16ās application.
Congrats, @madredos, @AnxietyAttack77, and @Undercovermom1 on your daughtersā decisions! Yahoo!
Impressive number crunching, @palm715, and looking beneath the surface figures. You were right that your D needed to look at the school before committing.
Congrats to your D, @ChicagoSportsFn. Let the dress shopping begin!
DS16 has received 2 letters from his second choice after declining his offer of acceptance and 2 phone calls within 15 minutes of one another welcoming him to the Honors College and offering to answer any questions. He was accepted into Honors on Feb 12 th and theyāre just now showing some attention . His chosen school immediately pursued him and established a relationship including the Dean, professors and current Honors students.
Piekid is as an admitted studentsā visit halfway across the country (by himself) so itās a slightly quiet house.
What Iām happier about is that my office mate is on a different coast with her son visiting a school. The two schools to which this kid was admitted were ones I put on his list, and he had not visited either one before acceptances! Iām so relieved that theyāre liking it. My office mate is so impressed with the school and her son loved it. I feel really, really relieved in that way you do when youāve recommended a restaurant to someone and they like it. But in this case it is one EXPENSIVE meal.
I donāt think the idea of graduation party ever entered our heads. Now my sonās favorite restaurant which costs a fortune, that is a different story!
Iām constantly getting emails from Randolph College which Iāve never even heard of saying āthat they still have spots in their class!ā
Is that Randolph College (The college formerly known as Randolph-Macon Womanās College) in VA?
Yes, Iām assuming so as it say it is in VA. @ChicagoSportsFn
Iām on a parents website for CofC and noticed that quite a few students store their dorm stuff in a storage unit in the town their school is located in , rather than haul back stuff back and forth. Never thought of that , but makes sense.
@mstomper, graduating in one year would sure be a good deal financially
Congratulations on all who made decisions! Lots of good news
@kittymom1102 has your son made a decision yet? @fretfulmother is your son set on Princeton or not yet?
@palm715 : Thanks for the homework assignment you just gave my husband!
@AnxietyAttack77 : Iām thinking about spending money on my other kids. Iāll follow @mommdcās example of the starter life kit, and maybe the gift card someone mentioned, but the rest is up to her.
@madredos: Congratulations on making it through such tough decisions. Wish your daughters all the best.
@ReminiscingDad - no weāre still aboard the ship. Wavering a lot. And I thought it was just MIT vs Princeton but then the grandparents suggested maybe Harvard needs a serious look, and DS said, āyou know, we should rethink Yaleā. Noooooooo. The M visit was absolutely wonderful. Pās visit is next week!
ETA: will take any and all advice. āFitā is proving to be too common at all schools to make a case for any one of them (possible exception: H)
@carolinamom2boys When my D was in college in St. Louis, everyone got storage units for the summer. Most kids were not within driving distance - the closest were about 5 hours away in Chicago or Texas. The kids shared storage units and it was cheap, maybe $25 or $30 a month for 3 months. Definitely cheaper than flying out to help her haul stuff home or shipping it. The downside was that by her senior year, she had a lot of stuff because she didnāt have to do too much paring down. And when she studied abroad, she got a unit with some friends who were also studying abroad and they rented the unit from December through August. It worked out great. I highly recommend this approach if your child is not within driving distance. One funny story here. My DH flew back with my D before her junior year to help her get her stuff out of storage. She had rented with 4 guy friends that time. DH said when they went to the storage unit, D stuff took up about 30% of the unit and guys combined had the other 70%. At least I have a minimalist S this time around.
And Congrats to all those with final decisions today!
I have a FAFSA question now that weāve finally filed our taxes. If the initial FAFSA estimates that we submitted to the schools didnāt result in any financial aid that we want to accept, and our revised tax information would show us with an even higher EFC, do we need to bother going back and updating the FAFSA or can we just leave it be? Basically, the school our son chose offered only the student unsubsidized loan, which we declined. I donāt feel like going back into the FAFSA unless itās required for some reasonā¦does anyone know if we are required to update it this late in the game to reflect our actual taxes if we will not be taking any FAFSA related aid? Thanks for any input on this.
As a Yale grad, canāt recommend it highly enough. Seriously. You should reconsider! I could conceive of MIT, but no to H or P.
Iām kind of joking, but I canāt get over my deep biases.
@fretfulmother: If Iām not mistaken, Princeton will re-institute the admission of transfer students after this fall. Have him enroll at M for one year, then head down the seaboard, then play darts with the rest.
We also donāt provide spending money for our college kids. They are responsible for books and spending money outside of tuition, room and board and costs to travel home which we cover. My D has found that about $2500 gets her through the year but with added costs of sorority dues she has spent more this year. She works 5 to 8 hours per week at on campus job. She really likes making and spending her own money and making her own decisions rather than asking permission to go on a trip or whatever.
