@kt1969 I heard that Lewis and Clark fin aid packages will be sent with mailing. My D got accepted also and there was no mention of it yet.

@kt1969, that’s awesome, congrats! Feeling a little wistful about having taken Lewis & Clark off our list. Hope they come through with some $$–the likelihood of low or no merit was largely the reason we ultimately dropped it, but it looks like a lovely, lovely school. I know how you feel about not being 100% on board about having my kid go far away–was willing to suck it up if we could make it work financially, but am secretly glad we’re not dealing with an opposite coast anymore.
@93pilots, congrats on Chapman! Choices are good!
@LuisaL, all the kids who reported the $18K award had substantially better stats (GPA and test scores) than my kid did–we also got the $15K award–I’m pretty sure it was that’s what it came down to.
Congrats @kt1969 on Lewis and Clark and Redlands! And to @PetulaClark on Lewis and Clark. We have visited–and liked–both. They are both terrific choices.
Son applied to Lewis and Clark but hasn’t heard anything yet. (And was thinking of applying to Redlands but hasn’t done it yet.)
@CAtransplant yes the Chapman application was EA (and not to the film school which I think takes longer).
@93pilots Did your son make the EA deadline? Dunno if they release all EA decisions at once or not. Since they are ahead of the 1/1 official release date maybe they roll them out as they are made.
@PetulaClark Thanks, will hope that is the case.
@kt1969 pretty sure he did meet the deadline. Will just wait for a while and see what happens. (Don’t want to make him snap his streak tonight if it’s bad news!)
Congrats to children of 93pilots and kt1969 and Petulaclark on acceptances to Chapman and Lewis and Clark and Redlands (and to anyone else I missed - so hard to keep up with all the good news)
@momofa12 - I’m sorry I have no info at all about Salisbury; wishing your child luck!
@LuisaL - just confirming that Coyote-son has higher stats on his transcript than the 3.0 to 3.4 listed at the beginning of the thread, and that’s likely why he got the $18K amount at UVM.
So, Coyote-son had a 3.9 UW at the end of junior year, but as of last week, he has two Cs, and a B to go with one solid A and one teetering A- in his academic courses - so that’s why I felt like this thread was the right home…despite being a smart kid, Coyote-son has executie function challenges.
Yay - I did find a tutor for Calculus, which is the one class where the problem is really mostly that his teacher isn’t meeting my kid’s needs for instruction, instead of the other classes where his grade accurately reflects that he has been missing or late with assignments.
@kt1969 he checked his Lewis and Clark portal and he’s in too (and very happy about it)!
Congrats @93pilots !! So much good news on this thread.
@LuisaL - re the UVM award, I concur with what CoyoteMom and @klinska said above. My kid’s stats don’t really fit those on the thread title, but I’m here because the parents on this thread are kind, supportive, and fun. :x
@klinska I am new to this, where did you see those stats? My S is right on the cusp with special circumstances. I am wondering if it is worth appealing for a review.
@93pilots Yay!!! Did his letter have any mention of merit money?
@LuisaL I was just going by what I was seeing over on the UVM forum under the 2021 acceptances thread. Have you checked out the school specific forums? There’s not a lot of activity on those for many of our schools, but for some I’ve been able to get some helpful information.
@93pilots – congratulations! So much good news in the past couple of days!
Congrats, @MomStudent2017, on CNU! I was SO, SO impressed by CNU when we visited over the summer. Tremendous programs and wonderful facilities. Unfortunately, we had a terribly boring info session and lame tour, which pretty much turned off TacoSon (I’m giving him an official nickname, inspired by @CoyoteMom). I made him apply anyway (EA) because I think it’s terrific!
So much good news coming in from all directions! I’m bracing myself for bad news from Case Western, expected Monday. TacoSon doesn’t care one whit; we didn’t visit CWR and he claims he has no interest in going to school in Ohio, but it was an easy one to add and his stats are pretty much in range, so why not. If he’s going to be turned down, it might as well be from a place he has zero investment in, right?
@CoyoteMom, we have yet another thing in common – current Calculus struggles! TacoSon does well in standard-level math classes but calculus is only offered AP at his school, and he’s having some trouble keeping up. Overall I think this semester is showing TacoSon that he really needs to choose a school without a lot of core requirements, because he is pretty much toast with a few subjects (Spanish and History, I’m looking at you). Did you ever hear anything about merit aid to GMU?
@eandesmom @kt1969 @klinska @RightCoaster @snoozn @CoyoteMom @cameo43
Congrats on the UVM acceptances and scholarships! wonderful news! <:-P <:-P <:-P
My friend’s daughter absolutely loved it there… great option!
@kt1969 also congrats on St. Michael’s, McDaniel, Lewis & Clarke and Chapman, on a roll!
@tacocat333 Congrats on George Mason Honors, sounds like S has some great options! <:-P
Oh my gosh, as I catch up more congrats are in order!!
@93pilots Congrats to your son on the three acceptances! You are also on a roll!!
@MomStudent2017 Wow you must be excited, ED acceptance and done!!! Congratulations!
@curiositycat333 Congrats on U of Oregon! I think it’s a great school!
@twoinanddone This is a good point about most recent scores and merit, we know D’s most recent scores (even thought sent) didn’t seem to be uploaded so maybe not considered. Also, I didn’t really know they gave $ for the checked boxes like visit, alumni, etc… hmmm.
@MSU88CHEng congrats on Albany!
Sorry if i missed anyone, it’s certainly makes for a less stressed weekend with all this great news!
This is UVM’s data set (according to college data, you can also look up their actual CDS)
The Presidents award is 15-18k and is based on achievements so one would assume the top dollar amount goes to kids with top stats . I’ve seen folks posting 15, 17 and 18 but no 16’s lol.
If your student has stats that put them in the top category across the board in all areas then I could maybe see it being worth a call.
That would mean a GPA above 3.75 (likely higher, there are a lot of high gpa’s in that category), SAT’s of at least 640M, 640R but likely higher needed (guessing 1400) or an ACT above 30, and in the top 10% or greater of their class.
They make it pretty clear it is a stats based award, so I am not sure special circumstances would be considered as a factor. All that said, I suspect it is your student, not you, who would need to make the call. I have never tried to ask for more money from a school but know that some do and have sucess. Typically though I think folks leverage an offer from one school, against another.
Good luck!

@CoyoteMom and @tacocat333 I think our boys could be brothers with the AP Calc struggles. Even though I tell S17 that he’ll NEED calculus if he does a 2nd major or minor in Economics like he currently wants, it’s always the last subject he works on or studies for. He’s just not into it, and the grade shows–hoping he can keep a B for the semester… It’s strange to see the Senioritis in him, but it has definitely bit him.
It seems like a banner weekend for our kids–so nice to see! Congrats to all on acceptances and merit. Good luck to all waiting for decisions next week.
