My younger daughter once said that CC was like crack for moms. Busted…
I’m pretty sure nobody else in my family realizes how much I am on here. My secret addiction.
My D got an email from the AO at McDaniel today. She is waiting to hear on her EA app, by the 15th supposedly. Basically said “I looked through your app and was very impressed, you obviously have worked hard, loved your essay about xxx. You’ll be hearing from us shortly, but let me know if you have any questions before then.” That has to be a good sign, right? I mean, that would be kinda mean to send that and then deny. McDaniel isn’t high on the list but haven’t visited, so hard to say.
@“Queen’s Mom” Don’t leave us hanging!
@curiositycat333 well I think you should encourage him to check but that’s just how I am. My D is opposite of your S she is very low key about all the schools except her favorite which she won’t hear from til March. And I have all the portal info Think of it this way - if he found out he got in, he’d be happy right? Too bad you can’t check and see first.
@kt1969, yes. That sounds like McDaniel will admit. Good luck.
I have been given permission to post on the Moms’ Addiction Site that she’s in at Ithaca College with merit money. She’s ecstatic, but total cost is really still too much. I really need it to be under $30k to make it doable. Yes, we can swing $40, but I don’t like eating instant ramen every day for the rest of my life. Here’s hoping for some financial aid.
Congrats @Queen’s Mom–great news! I hope more $$ come your way…
@kt1969, yes, that sounds very promising–and a nice personal touch from the AO, too!
@curiositycat333, don’t overthink it, just “remind” him to check, lol.
@“Queen’s Mom” congrats to your D…great news! Hope the extra $$ comes through.
@Queen’s Mom, was that one of her top choices? Great to have good news…even if that’s not where she ends up, it must be a real confidence booster for the rest of the wait…
It’s in her top 3 or 4. Her top choice right now is actually Chapman. We won’t know the result of that until much later… Of course the top choice has fluctuated over the past several months. Still, she has some nice choices even right now.
@“Queen’s Mom” Nice news!! Woo hoo!
@kt1969, I’ve seen that situation on a number of specific college threads and it always led to admission. Honestly, it would be cruel to send a personalized note like that and not admit.
@“Queen’s Mom” , congrats on Ithaca! But yeah, I know exactly what you mean about possible but probably too much of a stretch. Also – “Moms’ Addiction Site” =))
I know we have quite a few Dads, but “Parents’ Addiction Site” doesn’t have the same ring to it. (Sorry guys!)

I will add as folks send. I suspect I’ll need to combine some of the lines sooner rather than later as I am sure there is a word or character limit per post
@“Queen’s Mom” great news and congrats! When did your D apply? We are waiting on Ithaca, it would be lovely to have that one earlier than expected. I hear you on 40k…
@curiositycat333 if it is his top choice, I imagine he is checking on his own so I’d probably leave it alone until the weekend. If you are discussing other apps you could mention it offhand, in a hey, have you checked the portal recently kind of way and maybe wonder out loud if admission notifications will show up there in the portal, or ask him if he knows kind of thing.
My kids know I am active in a variety of internet boards here and there. While they aren’t aware of CC specifically (as far as I know) it wouldn’t surprise them a bit. I won’t be surprised if S19 shows up here as poster on his own at some point, it’s his kind of thing.
@kt1969 If that doesn’t result in admission I would be contacting the admissions office as otherwise it’s just cruel!
@snoozn hmmn. It’s a fair request except…one cannot possibly know what they will really want when marriage/weddings or the like come around, or what their proposed spouse might think about the whole thing. I’d be more inclined to make that trade for grad school to hedge my bets. I am sorry she is stressing about money. It hit home for S with his last acceptance as well. Knowing one thing…and seeing it on paper are two very different scenarios.
@“Queen’s Mom” congratulations! Ithaca looks really interesting. What a great option to have.
I don’t think my son has ever heard of this website!
@eandesmom, she applied in October, I believe around the 15th.
@endesmom Decided I’m just not going to bug him till the weekend. Tomorrow is the Holiday Band concert & he will be out all day. (Probably won’t come home between one EC & when he needs to be there fore band.) UofO one of his top choices but not mine for financial reasons. I think he’s checking the portal a lot less than I would. Probably better than way, I’d probably check it every day.
Wow… it’s interesting to see the acceptances all laid out. Did we decide to add rejections as well? And some of the list of EC’s are very impressed. Congrats to all of the acceptances. It really is surprising how different college can cost.
@“Queen’s Mom” thanks! He applied a few weeks later so hopefully we will hear before new years, that would be wonderful. We have a surprising number of kids from his school applying (4), 3 of which are all involved in theater with S but very different theatres interests and majors. I’ve no clue who the 4th is but it is the most from our school ever so it would be very weird if a few end up there. I fear a very similar financial result though.
@curiositycat333 yep, we will show rejections and waitlists as well. While it’s nice to show only the positive, it doesn’t really help those that follow if they don’t see the full picture. I think we should also note if students applied to a main campus but were accepted to a regional.
We haven’t gotten any negative news yet except Pitt wanted to see first semester grades, so we wait for a real answer.
I wish it were easy to get the OOS admit rates for the state schools. Some schools have rates that make it look as if nearly everyone gets in, but the AR is often quite a bit lower for OOS.
