Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

@srk2017 - thanks! S17’s semester ended 1/2 and there are no mid year reports updated. Only Wisconsin is asking and they want self-reporting.

Anybody know if Vanderbilt RD needs them?

Econ -
D takes AP Econ as an independent study - our business/econ teacher is terrible and pretty much told the high achievers not to bother coming to class. :-L So, D is pretty neutral on the class. Teacher’s have a huge influence on how much my D enjoys her classes.

Mid Year report-
We had official transcripts with fall grades mailed, but this is the first I’ve heard of a mid-year common app report. Not bothering with it unless a school asks for it.

Narrowing-
I would also welcome a rejection. Without a rejection, we are looking at 2 weeks out of school for admitted student events. All schools left on the list will meet educational objectives and are affordable. Final decision is just about feel which will be determined by visits. Why do they do these things on weekdays? :-/

@nw2this I feel your pain. D is missing 5 days in February and probably the same in March to visit schools.

@nw2this @itsgettingreal17 S visited all but 2 schools already. One he will visit in March at their expense if he is a scholarship finalist. He has already decided to only go to 2-3 revisit days which means narrowing it down very quickly at the beginning of April. He has been thinking about some preferences, but hard to make final decisions until he knows his choices.

@payn4ward and @IAbooks - our D graduates 5/20 as well, with a lock-in overnite party that night.
Grad gown was covered in the “senior” fee at the beginning of the school year, I think.
I’m enjoying hearing about everyone’s acceptances and scholarships :slight_smile: and I feel for the kids who have received redirection decisions :frowning:
Our D is pretty close to deciding which school she wants to attend, so less stress here!

@jpc763 - did you check Vanderbilt portal? DS also applied but report is in.

Bravo Lady Gaga! Well done!

Lady Gaga killed it!

@STEM2017 Awesome 1/2 time show!!! Love her!!! We’ve seen her in concert 3x already.

Even superbowl is not stopping folks from CC :))

@jpc763 I’d check the portal as the most accurate source but if you log into common app, under the dashboard when you select on a college, there is a Required section which has a subsection called Recommendations Required. If the school requires the mid-year report, it lists it there.

The Superbowl is on? We’ve spent the day having a Lord of the Rings marathon, complete with Middle Earth food. ;:wink:

@JenJenJenJen that’s just weird; I can’t believe a professor would do that nude or not!

I did NOT like statistics. I did enjoy the reservation near there though!

@nw2this Yes, I can’t figure out why admitted student days are during the week either. It’s so annoying, we have work and school!

Are revisit days all during the week? It is probably easier for the schools. I know some kids who went on revisit days alone last year.

@itsgettingreal17

How did you get it down to only 2 weeks with so many schools and scholar events, honors events, regular student events, etc.?

@nw2this Most events are Friday-Sunday, so mostly loses Fridays. Then we’ll squeeze in several visits during spring break. Lots more visits than we anticipated, but grateful for the opportunities.

D is a finalist for the full ride at U of Delaware (DiScho).

If your D/S applied, check the portal. We would have missed this one as D, for some reason, didn’t receive the email on Friday. We only realized announcements went out by reading about it on CC.

For any class of 2018’ers reading–

Add scholarship interview/Honors invite weekends etc. to your budgets. Some are reimbursed but some are not.

Thankful for the opportunities–but didn’t plan it into the budget!

Hi there everybody. Long time listener, first time caller. Love the JOTD.

Hello @30socks.
