@CT1417 I’m not a CA expert but looking at it with my D last night there seemed to be a Honors/Awards Tab with a drop-down and you choose school,city/regional,state,national or something like that for each entry.
You might be College Confidential geek if like me, your significant other buys you for your recent birthday 2 books…
“How to get into a top college”, and “College Essay Essentials”.
LOL. Shouldn’t the kids being gifted these? My wife has literally dropped all college search/college app duty onto me.
Thanks @Dolemite. I recall something like that from three years ago. I guess my son has not dug deep enough yet.
OK—made my own CA just so I could look. It is under Education and allows for up to five and the drop down menu is exactly as you described, @Dolemite.
Son is definitely underestimating the amount of time it will take to complete this. Will continue to nag…
@CT1417 there is no separate section for awards. They need to be mentioned specific to each activity.
@itsgettingreal17 — I found it under education, sub category ‘Honors’. That is what I was looking for and vaguely recalled from three years ago.
@CT1417 thanks. I forgot about that.
My D wanted to put her musical instrument award but we could not find any place to put. The ‘Honors’ under Education tab looks like only for academic honors, so she wrote about the award when she described her music activity.
@HiToWaMom What is the award? Was awarded by the school or was she representing the school when she received it? Mentioning it under the EA is also a good place.
@Dolemite It was a regional solo contest and my D took the first place, qualifying for the state. She represented the school and it was awarded by state music education association or something of that line. I don’t think it is academic honor, so we put it in activity section.
Really dumb question for you mid-westerners from a guy that doesn’t get out of NYC very often.
How heavy is the snowfall at Michigan State and U Michigan. Is it anything like Buffalo where you are basically snowed in from December to March? Michigan State looks like it could be a good spot for my son, but he will be very unhappy being snowed in.
Ditto.
Nah. I-)
I decided that DS17 will grow up at his own pace.
It seemed he will never – sleep through the night (only took 5 years,) be potty trained (took less,) be talking, etc.
All that happened so… eventually… he will text me that he needs more pants or whatever from his dorm.
~O)
According to this link, Ann Arbor gets a little under 5 feet of snow a year and Lansing gets a little over 4 feet of snow a year.

I know Michigan State has some areas with heated sidewalks. That was discussed on my daughter’s tour a couple weeks ago.
@STEM2017 I am not sure “snowed in” is the right description. Yes, it snows and it gets cold, sometimes even miserable. Yes, snow will stay on streets forever and there will be no sun for one-month stretch. But people go about doing their stuff, that is, classes, activities, walking outside, etc go on.
I think I read somewhere that U Mich has a lot of tunnels so the kids don’t have to tromp through the snow?
I love snow; it’s the lack of sunshine and daylight time that keeps me and H south of the mason dixon line.
**QOTD:/b Are any of your kids interested in a pet dorm? Did any of you sneak or bring pets to college?
I bought an anole lizard when I was at CMU. He escaped his cage and my two roommates threatened me with death if I got another one
Schools that get a lot of snow will be able to function when they get snow. They have to. Whether the kids can is another story. Its the schools/cities that rarely get snow that are shut down when they get a light dusting.
We get about 70-100" of snow a season. I love it. May be my favorite season (Fall my be favorite). Our schools are typically closed when its below 20 degrees (which doesn’t make any sense to me as we do not have large numbers of kids who walk to school and businesses rarely shut down because of weather in the winter). I have friends in Minnesota. Their schools would be closed pretty much from mid December through March with a plus 20 degree cutoff. But from what I have heard it is incredibly rare for schools to close because of weather in the winter in Minnesota. Cold/snow are expected and dealt with as part of every day life.
For all those trying to figure out the Pitt/conversion/superscore mystery maybe we could try this?
We need someone whose kid only reported SAT scores to check their portal and see if those scores were converted to ACT scores?
And if your kid is at a school where they rarely get snow (like D15 in VA), the town and school shuts down when they get 4" of snow!
^^^^^^
You southerners need to toughen the @#$% up. LOL.
My kids are playing soccer right now with temps around 100 here in MA. Come the playoffs in November they will be playing in the 30’s. Better them than me
It’s all mind over matter. You can get used to dealing with any sort of weather/temp condition.
@mtrosemom Every place VA south shuts down even with an inch of snow. Sometimes things shut down if they think it is going to snow bc they don’t want the buses out in it.
Fwiw, I don’t think any of my kids have seen a 100"of snow totaled over their entire lifetime.
(Me, otoh, I grew up in Canada, so seeing my father dig tunnels to our cottage door that had snow to the roof was typical every Christmas. That and bringing in snow covered tress that melted all over the place making a mess. I thought about that when it was 80 degrees last yr when we were picking out our tree!)
@rightcoaster Not really. People in the south are not used to driving in the snow. Trust me. They end up in ditches.
