@cruisecontrol – I was not looking at the school level, but at the higher CA level.
Totally random guess here…but maybe ACT is not superscored by CA as it is not super scored by all colleges yet, whereas SAT almost universally is. Just a guess?

Some of the common app schools have opted out of receiving certain data points collected by the Common App…one of S17s schools I noted had a disclaimer that the printed out application would lack some portions (for example religion) and that that was done with intent per their prerogative. It may explain some of these things.
@cruisecontrol I wasn’t looking at the school level either. We’ve not looked at that level other than to gather all questions, supplements and determine how many LOR’s are allowed.
@CT1417 perhaps, however it makes the self reporting somewhat useless in that case as it only asks for the highest section scores which means it’s very clear that the composite doesn’t match since the highest scores aren’t from a single sitting. I’m not putting a whole lot of weight into it, schools want the official score reports and almost all of S’s schools superscore the ACT anyway and/or are test optional).
@eandesmom —I am not sure what the cells asked before the info was entered; I am only looking at the end product. So are you saying that the applicant did not need to enter scores from all subsections for each test date? I think my son has to as several of his schools require submission of all testing history. We are far from hitting submit in this household…and seemingly slipping further away with each passing day!
I agree that it isn’t all that important as all colleges need the official school reports. The thing I do recall finding interesting the last time round was the info each university captured. One school only reported M & CR, omitting the W score, while another school which said it did not consider W score, actually captured and reported all three sections’ scores.
If a school’s deadline is Oct 15th, you will need to hit that submit button well before then, right? So that you can see the status of your application, LOR, transcript, CSS, etc, to make sure that you can be all set by Oct 15th? Sorry, until we did one, still can’t picture the whole process.
I don’t recall the CA asking for ACT/SAT test scores. Where are you all seeing that? It asked for SAT subject test scores and AP/IB scores.
@itsgettingreal17 I am pretty sure it is optional self-reporting. Dd already sent her test scores and hasn’t finished the CA, so she just opted out of filling in all that info.
@SincererLove Yes! Your child only had control of a part of the application. So plan well ahead. Right now, D’s school is holding things up. She’s done her part and has no control over when the GC’s office sends theirs.
No one should take my word on anything as my other son was part of the class with the new CA that was such a disaster that all schools extended app deadlines by at least one week. This was the year after Hurricane Sandy (Super Storm Sandy?) that cancelled Nov SATs and caused many colleges to extend their app deadlines…(up to two weeks of power outages).
Anyway—it seemed to me that the colleges were OK as long as the applicant submitted his CA part 1 & part 2 (is it still two parts?) and his payment by the deadline. Scores could trickle in. Some schools take a few to several days to upload the info while others (Hello Tulane) render a decision within a week (but they were not on the CA then).
Anyone with more recent filing experience should step in here to correct any misstatements.
My recommendation would be to check school websites. Some schools state that all materials must be received by date X. Others say that the application needs to received by X, but test scores are accepted through y.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek but I don’t even see self-reporting as an option on the CA (I have access to D’s account).
@itsgettingreal17, pardon the interruption, but to enter the ACT for example: Common Application --> Testing --> Long worded question “Do you wish to self report…” If you say yes, there is a drop down list for what you wish to self-report. In the next drop down, you have a list of which tests you want to self report. ACT and SAT before March 2016 and after March 2016 are listed.
Whether you should, I have no idea about that.
@itsgettingreal17 — Under the CA tab, under Testing:
“In addition to sending official score reports as required by colleges, do you wish to self-report scores or future test dates for any of the following standardized tests: ACT, SAT/SAT Subject, AP, IB, TOEFL, PTE Academic, and IELTS?
Yes
Indicate all tests you wish to report. Be sure to include tests you expect to take in addition to tests you have already taken.
SAT (before March 2016), SAT Subject Tests, AP Subject Tests”
I have never seen the term ‘AP Subject Test’ before.
Oh! I guess D chose not to report SAT. I only saw SAT2 and AP scores for her.
Thank you for your responses.
I’d like to do a pie chart of how many $ each application goes to CB—scores, CSS, and how much it goes to colleges so that they can fill other families’ recycle bins and keep USPS alive!!
Oh, you guys were looking at the “Preview”, not the “Review and Submit” for an individual school. Totally different. The “Review”, which lets you download a PDF before you “Submit” (or Cancel/Go Back). I think it is only available to you once you have completed all the sections of both the CA tab and the individual school. Anyway, the one I saw did not contain much info from the CA tab, and I think what @vandyeyes said makes sense…for instance, if a school requires test scores from the agencies maybe they don’t have any interest in receiving self-reported scores from the common app that may or may not even be there. I feel better now.
@flatKansas You are not being unreasonable at all! I have heard of way too many horror stories of GC not getting all of the info submitted on time after they thought they had, etc. In our school you have to go into Guidance each time you hit submit and let them know and then they will send transcripts, resume and GC LOR. Ds has been checking online at the college and will go in this week to confirm with the GC that it was sent to the schools he has applied to so far.
@SincererLove CB sells the addresses to the colleges for marketing. So test costs, scores & CSS are a small addition.
BTW, Manuel Alfaro has “Mission to Expose the College Board” GoFundMe page… about that million dollar spare change in attic… hmm… I would use some to fund Alfaro. >:) >:)
D2 got her acceptance to the College of Engineering at Bama! I’m more enthusiastic than she is, but she hasn’t yet taken time to look at Honors College, University Fellows, etc.
The two easy apps are out of the way. Now she needs to work on the other four. sigh
Hey, @NerdMom88, maybe we should start trading tips on getting our daughters to fall in love with Alabama!
