@MassDaD68 one of the reasons D is applying to schools in England is that a couple have a Chemistry and Business major that she has not found here.

Welp, our Oct 15 deadline transcripts and LORs were sent out this morning. Right on schedule.
@mommdc … Will read the article in a bit. Do you happen to know if Six Sigma Black Belt training is included for the STEM/MBA?
@RightCoaster - not sure but I thought that the student’s name was auto populated in that signature screen but I wasn’t looking very closely last time I saw it.
D’s teacher rec is in my inbox! (Odd situation–as a homeschooler guidance counselor, I have to upload the rec for the teacher. There is no way for her to do it herself.)
I swear, you could see D visibly relax at the news
Sorry for the computer barf
Too funny. He was thinking of Chemical Engineering because he loves chemistry so much. That seems like a wonderful major combo. Not sure I could handle my son being full time abroad for four years.
It sounds like the perfect program for her. They go 2 years, then have a one year industry placement then do their final year.
One is the bottom program on this page.

@WhereIsMyKindle So happy for your D.That should help for the lower stress weekend.
Wow. I was just looking at the CA for UMich (the real UofM). They ask if you have any relatives who have attended UofM. If you respond ‘Yes’, as my daughter did, it then asks if any were ‘grandparents’. If you say ‘yes’ you can enter up to 5(!). If you say ‘no’, then it goes on to the next question. They actually do NOT capture the fact that a parent attended. WTH? She has a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who all attended UofM, and they don’t care.
It’s been on and off the list, but I’ve always wondered if she would get in. Tempted to take it off again. Really tempted.
Roll Spartans!
ETA: Oops, they capture where your parents went to school in the Common App portion of the app, not the school portion. nm. :-"
Wow this tread moves quick…and the FB one. Gonna be really hard to keep up now that Blues hockey is back on TV (I guess it’s a good thing the Cards are out)
Wake Forest interview D said it was rough. Questions like what author inspires you? What does community mean to you? Who would you want to have dinner with dead or alive? Many similar to the ?s on their app. so at least she has sort of thought about them. But my D said that the interviewer never smiled…not once. She was already nervous so I am sure that made it worse. Oh well…it they don’t like her than it is not meant to be.
app status CASP’er here. Fall break is almost over and not much progress has been make. I have a feeling she will wait until Monday (her last day of break). We have 18 schools on our working list - but she will likely only apply to 7 - 9 of those. No ED schools. We have 3 EA schools but 2 of which I think she may actually be more competitive in the RD pool. I think we have 2 rolling ones. The only for sure EA is a 11/15 deadline so I am not freaking out yet. LOR are still marked not started in CA. I am hoping they will get submitted before fall break ends Tues. I also am ready but waiting to submit both the CSS profile and the request to send ACT scores because I don’t want to pay to send them to schools that end up falling off the list. I so wish D shared my sense of urgency…
Sharing I have one close friend I share with. Everyone else gets really vague answers. No one here understands why you wouldn’t just apply and go to the state flagship or one of the directional (which are no work at all to apply) I hope that maybe in the spring I will be able to have her wear some gear for her senior pictures and maybe share one of those on social media. We will see.
Speaking of Spring - I share the same fears as @hadmeathello that what seems like a great idea now of waiting until acceptances to really decide might make for a super stressful spring. But I am having a hard enough time getting to to get through the apps that I can’t add any more stress now. And I am secretly hoping that an idea of a major might be more clear for her then and that may help with selecting one. Right now she really has no idea (figuring out a way to meet and convince a NHL player to marry her is still at the top of the list :D)
Grades So far they are no where she hoped they would be. APCalcBC is killing her. She is falling behind and worried she isn’t going to be able to catch up. New teacher this year and she said he is not very good. She is actually talking about switching out at semester I am refusing to discuss this right now. Two other Bs as well - but both are high B’s that she is pretty sure she will be able to raise before the semester ends.
I am going to stop at the store on the way home to stock up on chocolate and wine. I think I am going to need it for the next couple of months
QOTD- we only share with those really close to us. My Daughter has shared with a few too many people and it has caused some not so fun comments from people.
@jeepgirl …getting some “What? Why Alabama?” comments from people who have never visited the school?

^this is what I found by googling
@carachel2, sorry I have no idea if the Stem to MBA program includes six sigma training.
Maybe @Mom2aphysicsgeek can put you in touch with someone at UA who could answer that question for you?
All I know about UA is basically what I have read on CC.
@mommdc …ok thanks! I’ll hit up the google. I thought you might know a bit more…thanks!
In our real world experience with H as an engineer, Six Sigma training is very very valuable. If D truly pursues and finishes engineering, H is encouraging her to get this very expensive certification while in school. Some companies do pay for it, but to get it done while in school I would think would be a great deal.
QOTD: so far, not too many people have bugged me about son17 college stuff. They’ve asked where he’s looking at or what he wants to study. I just give a generic, " staying in the Boston area studying Business". That could cover a bazillion schools. Haven’t had to answer any questions regarding act/sat scores either, so that is refreshing. My son tells me the kids have discussed a lot of that info with each other though. My son feels confidents knowing he has a decent shot at getting into the schools he likes and is just leaving it like that. He said he has some friends that have ok grades and ok test scores and they are more stressed out because it has gotten more competitive at a lot local schools, Northeastern, Umass, BU. BC etc.
