Yeah. Advice, don’t take three in one day, right after finals.
790 … 750 … 660.
Those results from a strong test taker. And the 660 in the subject most important.

Ugh. Pagination bit me and replied to an old comment. I am apparently jet lagged badly. Sorry for the noise.
@DavidPuddy - there must be something in the cc water this week; D didn’t get the SAT II score she was looking for either!! She’s signed-up to take a different one on Aug 26th. She needs one more good score to meet the criteria for some of the schools she’s interested in applying for.
My DD wants to take the September ACT to get a better score to make herself more competitive at one particular school (and possibly get better merit at the others). The issue is that the one particular school opens their applications with the Common App and starts review in September.
Admissions says her application is considered complete when she gets everything in, including the ACT scores. I asked them if we should wait until all the scores are in and then send the highest, and they didn’t seem to answer my question in a way I understood it. And now that ACT scores are still out for some it’s making me nervous about just sending it in late - they say the early action deadline is December 1, but application review begins in September. I might just call, versus email, and ask them to explain it to me in small words. I’m not sure why it’s not making sense to me.
@NamePoster Thanks for the report, especially on UChicago. H and I keep encouraging D to consider applying. The food trucks just might sway her. ;))
@DavidPuddy Ouch. Can he retake the 660 before deadlines? It’s so hard to cram everything in, I know. So much pressure on these kids.
So, my kid has been away for five days now and I hardly hear from her. It’s mostly one word responses to my texts. Is this how it’s going to be when she’s gone for real? :(( My emotions aside, I think it’s a good thing: she’s busy and engaged, and she says she’s not homesick.
@ShrimpBurrito, my S was very similar on the texting front while he was away this summer. Although I was glad he made so many friends and was having so much fun, I was also sad that he would sometimes ignore my texts. I didn’t text him every day and I tried hard not to pester him (he would probably say I wasn’t fully successful on that attempt, but he has no idea how many more texts I WANTED to send him but didn’t lol). But then he surprised us by calling us several times unprompted over the five-week period, chatting away happily with both H and me for probably 30 minutes each time. Overall it was really good preparation for all of us I think. This wasn’t the first time he’d been away from us but it was the most “real” this time because he’s so close to going off to college now, and also because he’s so likely to attend this school.
@DavidPuddy I think he’s worried too much. Take the 660 again in the fall and bring it up. Having the bad score along with it won’t be a big deal because they will see that he does, in fact, know it. And people realize this is just a 1 hour test! They will look at the context of his whole record and if it’s an aberration they’ll blow it off …maybe he was sick, etc. Don’t worry, it can be replaced.
@bearcatfan we are in a similar situation. Luckily ACT is generally good about getting those score out within 2 weeks, despite Astro77’s really unfortunate wait this past time! My advice would be to submit the app in August with her current scores, if they fall within the 25% - 75% range. Take the Sept. 9th ACT and then update the app with the new score. You can call or email admissions and let them know a new score is on the way. (We did this for Pitt with out DD’16.) Also the common app has a place where you can report the current scores and it lets you delineate that you plan to take the test again and to input the projected test date.
SAT stayed the same. Reading went up, and math down a bit. He even ran out of time on the reading.
If we had more time we might consider having him take it again in August, but rest of summer is going to be very busy, and he has to get wisdom teeth out a few days before the test date.
His score is above what he needs for admission to the schools of interest. So everything just comes down to the audition to get into his major. We are hoping for some form of scholarship, if not from the school, then he can try for some local ones.
You want to feel old? Our neighborhood bulletin noted that the upcoming kindergarten students are the HS Class of 2030! Hard to believe
@mommdc wouldn’t that mean the SAT super score went up overall? For schools that super score anyway. They take the best component scores to get a new total.
So how many of you have kids who are interning/working this summer?
My D is working part-time, she was a volunteer counselor at a week long academic camp for middle school kids, and she also taking two PE classes to knock out her PE requirements. Trying to squeeze in some volunteer hours as well.
S18 is a lifeguard. Working about 50 hours a week (although missing this week for sports camp).
My D is a TA at a local middle school for a 4-week summer school program (for extremely difficult kids) and will be doing a 2-week internship at Stanford. She also has PT hours at a local business.
50 hours a week! Wow!
D has been working sporadically as a swim instructor, through swim club and private lessons.
DD is a lifeguard as well. She is working 35 hours per week, but is getting ready to take off for cross country camp.
My D started as a Sales Associate at Z Gallerie this week. Was feeling pretty good about herself when she got her checking account and debit card for direct deposit! Nice if she can keep some hours going during the school year.
Yes it is insane. Course his sister (done with freshman year of college) is working 80 hours a week! Needless to say, we rarely see them.
So, DD just sent her ACT scores to all of the schools on her final list,15 in total, (wow). (phew, sigh) There is one super reach, that I am not going to share.
