Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

@dadotwoboys CONGRATS as a fellow music parent (my older D is a classical voice and music ed double major) I know just how incredibly elite All State music programs are. Wonderful news!!!

@gclsports Congratulations, that first acceptance is so important and I’m sure many more to come. Wonderful news for your son today!!! Hooray!!!

Congrats to @gclsports on that first acceptance!! <:-P <:-P <:-P

And congrats to your S @dadotwoboys on his musical achievement! :D/ :D/ :D/

Let’s keep the good news rolling!

Love hearing all the good news on acceptances!
Cheers @gclsports and @dadotwoboys =D>

Well, looks like D may take the aforementioned offer to change to ED at her favorite school! We are waiting to hear back from the FA officer this morning updating the Early Read we had done this summer. If the update goes well, D is going to apply ED. What a turn of events in the past 24 hours! :-j

D is excited and so am I. This has always been her favorite school and even if she is denied admission, she can rest assured knowing she did all she could AND find out next month. This will free up her mind to review the other college acceptances with better clarity versus viewing them as Plan B. (I guess a deferral is possible, but we’ll see).

It’s bittersweet in some ways (possibly turning down potential NMF full ride, etc.) but feels like the right thing to do. The bonus is that an acceptance there would not only make the next six months a whole lot more calm, but would keep her within about two hours from home! Our whole family has been concerned about her handling long distances, including D, so this would be quite exciting.

I wish that email she had received from the college was similar to a likely letter, but D is convinced they probably sent it to all RD applicants. Who knows. Positive vibes welcome!

@Kayak24 Good luck. I hope FA comes through. I understand fully about being so far away. We have cut quite a few what could of been full rides because of distance. Fingers crossed. If she submits ED, is it middle or late December notification?

We our out of school today due to Election. So, I am taking 20 to see a school and 18 is coming too. I don’t think I have enough nerves to restart this process so soon. [-O<

@Kayak24 good luck! How exciting. Can’t wait till we all get to start sharing good news!

Good Luck to your D @Kayak24

S18 also got the South Carolina acceptance letter yesterday, his first one. He happened to be home, recuperating from wisdom teeth removal. I think he was excited, but hard to tell with 2 bags of frozen peas strapped to the sides of his face.

@vistajay Congrats to your S on the USCar acceptance! I hope the wisdom teeth recovery goes well. My S is scheduled for wisdom teeth extraction in a few weeks. If you discovery any tricks to make recovery easier, please share!

@gclsports , frozen bags of black eyed peas are the right size and cheaper than green peas!

S got his wisdom teeth out this summer. Yes, the icing is important the first 1-2 days, then heat can help. Make sure they do the salt water rinses with the syringe starting a few days later esp after meals as food gets stuck in the extraction sites.

He was off work for a few days. Swelling was worst on day 3-4.

We are joining the Wisdom Teeth Removal Club on December 20. Please share stories and tips.

With older D we wrapped an ace bandage around her head to keep the ice packs/bags of peas in place.

I took two tube socks and sewed them together at the bottom (toe). Then slid a Ziploc bag of frozen peas in each sock and tied it around his head.

I went through oldest D’s wisdom teeth removal this summer. I read past posts on CC and from those, I recommended she eat pineapple in the days prior to removal to reduce swelling.

Besides sleeping at night, she spent the first couple days in a reclining chair to keep her head up to also help reduce swelling.

We have a lot of soft flat ice packs so we used those.

I kept my phone on a twenty minute timer for two days during the day time. She switched a pack from left to right every twenty minutes.

The oral surgeon was very insistent about good nutrition during the immediate recovery so I kept that in mind in planning soft foods. In other words, not just pudding and applesauce. I think I made some chicken soup with veggies cooked very soft and cooled before serving.

My D had no noticeable swelling and needed very few painkillers. I think she took one the evening of the surgery only because the doctor recommended it, and none the next day. She had increased pain the third day, which I think is normal but can be disconcerting when you think the worst is over.

It really helped that all four teeth were almost fully erupted.

Ooh, I forgot. No drinking through a straw!

YAY @gclsports

@Kayak24 Great News for you. Imagine the stress free holidays! You’ll be the envy of us all

The down side of rolling admissions is that its such a long wait from October till the big scholarships are awarded

Good luck @Kayak24 & great job navigating that quick decision! It’s funny how you think you’re on top of everything & then another opportunity can just pop-up like that!

Roll call on who here applied ED or one of those SCEA somewhere?

@Kayak24 - ED here, too. Also feeling a little of the pain of losing NMF scholarship money, especially since she just got an acceptance that would cover pretty much everything. Sigh. But, this is her first first choice and has been since she did summer camp there four years ago. Hoping for an early Christmas gift for her! I told her that will be her ONLY Christmas gift because we won’t have any money for actual Christmas gifts if she gets in!!
