@Twoin18, although we’ve all put in a ton of work into this process, I can’t imagine doing this for twins that have different interests and the whole auditioning component… All I can say is a big congratulations for almost being done!
Aaaaand that’s a wrap for decisions for us. Final score: 7-2-1, with two of the 7 reaches! Whew, glad to be done with this part of the process. Now to revisits and a hard decision!
S18 officially declined three offers. It made me feel a little nervous but it did not seem fair to others when he is not going to attend. He has a top 2 but still wavers on the third so will hold on to that until we do the re-visits in April.
Of course, at Easter tomorrow his grandparents will drive him crazy asking about the schools (and offering their opinions!)
14818 Go to Admitted Student Days. My daughter got accepted to Yale EA in 2014. She went to the admitted student days and discovered Yale wasn't as strong in the sciences as she wanted. Went to Stanford instead.
Accepted: Penn State, Skidmore, Baylor (w/merit), Texas A&M, Trinity U (w/merit), Oklahoma w/merit), UTexas San Antonio (w/merit)
Wait Listed: William & Mary
Denied: Bowdoin
Wishing a Happy Easter and a Joyous Passover to all!
We all work so hard helping our kiddos navigate through this landscape. May we take the time this weekend to enjoy our precious family time together and celebrate life with our loved ones. (Yes…I am the mother of a graduating senior LOL). And for those of us celebrating Easter today with kids who have not made decisions yet may we be able to ward off the over inquisitive relatives who will surely drive our kids crazy!
All decisions in and here is the final list:
Accepted ( All with merit and where applicable directly into her major/communications):
DePaul
Elon
Fairfield
Hofstra
Ithaca
Loyola Chicago
University of Rhode Island
Waitlisted
Clemson
George Washington
Newhouse ( Syracuse)
Denied
Boston University
Northwestern
Already has rescinded DePaul and Hofstra. Will be doing same with Fairfield and URI. Top three all the same cost due to varying merit and financial aid. Decision is in her court…
Odds:
Elon 40%
Ithaca 30%
Loyola Chicago 30%
BTW we skipped Newhouse on the way to Ithaca since we did not have a decision…decision was in her email that night and she was happy we did not tour that day. We had a nice restful retreat in Ithaca this weekend and were able to discuss a lot. She has a clear head as she makes her decision.
Final tally for S18 for those keeping track at home:
Accepted: UF, USF (both participate in Benacquisto for full cost of attendance for NMF)
Denied: Uchicago (deferred EA), Swarthmore (this was a surprise, considered it a match)
@MinnieFan, glad you took it easy on your way to Ithaca and that your daughter was happy with that decision, especially the way the decision turned out! Your mom’s intuition was right!
Feeling quite frustrated this morning that we still have not heard from one school. Grrr. I don’t think it’s a strong contender, but we (I) really counted on having all the information in by now. OK, rant over, carry on!
GertrudeMcFuzz - I would probably go ahead and make a decision and not wait on that school. A school that drags their feet making an offer probably isn’t going to be offering merit scholarships and other incentives to your kid. If you have something good on the table already I would make it official. Maybe other people have had different experiences, just sharing my thoughts.
@flmom26 - I agree, but its one that is supposed to offer a full ride to NMF and its D’s only in-state option. She has lately expressed interest in it. It should be a slam-dunk, but maybe there’s been a hiccup. I’ll see what I can find out over the phone tomorrow, then probably just let it go.
I have not posted, but have been following, so will post sons schools… he was accepted everywhere he applied
Dayton
Xavier
Gonzaga
Loyola Chicago
Creighton
University of Minnesota
Ohio State
Indiana University
Michigan State University
Marquette University
University of Michigan
He was offered merit at all but Michigan State and the University of Michigan. He will attend the University of Michigan in the Ross School of Business. My older son is a junior there double majoring in Computer Science and Spanish with an Economics minor. Go Blue!
Accepted
USC (cal) with decent financial aid package (tuition covered)
Barnard with decent financial aid package (tuition covered)
UTD with NMF package
Colorado School Mines with poor financial aid
Denied
Georgia Tech
Brown
Columbia
Yale
Harvard
Stanford
She is deciding between Barnard and USC with each fifty fifty. UTD is remote possibility now with the good FA packages from USC and Barnard. Now we need to make a choice between two good options.
