Elon and Furman were both on my S’s list, but he definitely preferred Furman. As far as traveling to Greenville, there is a college shuttle for that so a car is not really necessary. Housing is provided for 4 years, but I think some seniors end up at nearby apartments because there aren’t enough dorm rooms or campus apartments. Sounds like they need some more housing.
@megan12 Furman requires students to live on campus all 4 years. The apartments that upperclassmen live in are on campus. Only married couples are allowed to live off campus.
@natty1988, how long ago did he apply? NAU and Western Washington have issued acceptances - most kids I know who have heard back from either or both applied in early fall. Mine heard from NAU within a week. They did not send an email though - you have to check the portal
@natty1988 Regarding NAU, I agree that your son should check the portal and if necessary call admissions. NAU was the first school my D applied to back in August and she got an acceptance within a week or two. My D heard via the portal but then got snail mail confirmation followed up with further snail mail info including insurance info.
@TS0104 I dropped my daughter off at the airport this morning for her flight back to Elon and she was so happy! She was really excited to get back and LOVES it there. She is the absolute as far away from a partier as you can get. In the first few weeks every freshman was very into the party scene and she tried to go a couple of times but could not get into it. Instead she went to the movies, volunteered…found other things. After a few weeks she was finding other kids in her dorm who were not as into it anymore and they started to do more together. I asked her about the scene on the way to the airport and she said some kids are still very into it ( her roommate is one) but most have calmed way down. At this point it does not matter to her. She is friendly with those who do and those who don’t but is able to find fun things to do with those who don’t and it seems like on her floor they are all ok with their roles whatever they are.
