Parents of the HS Class of 2019 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

@DCNatFan maybe she will be deferred? If so, those grades will help. Crossing fingers this week gets better.

@EENYMum I have a tale from the dark ages… I decided my senior year of high school not to take ANY us gov class. Got into UT Austin, nobody said a word, all is well.

Fast forward to March of my senior year and I’ve turned in the paperwork to ensure I’ll graduate on May 2. Ladies at the office told me I’m short one US gov High School credit - which is equal to 1/2 UT credit and they won’t approve my paperwork until I take the class next summer. ???
Luckily I had worked with the Academic dean on a project- ran to his office- begged him to march in there and advocate for me. Which he did, and they were pissed off, argued, but relented. I walked away with my approval to graduate. It was a close call! No idea if this happened to anyone other than stupid me - but thought I’d share!!

@2019hope
I think many of us have had recurring dreams about something like that. A coworker once was asking all of the college grads about it, seems to be common among college grads. She theorized it meant we felt we were quite qualified for our job.

But I’m glad to hear your real-life scenario worked out. I actually found myself in my final semester, short 3 foreign language courses. (also in the dark ages) Convinced the dean to let me take the 2nd semester of French and 2 computer languages. He agreed because I wasn’t planning to go to grad school. The computer classes proved to be much more useful career-wise.

In NY, if not AP Gov, then students have to take 1/2 year Participation in Government instead as a graduation requirement.

She theorized it meant we felt we **weren’t ** quite qualified for our job.

@2019hope I can"t even imagine that scenario! @mom2twogirls we are in NY and D’s GC promised that both the SUPA Econ class (DE through Syracyse U) and SUPA Public Policy course count as US Gov equivalent. And we asked several times. Now after hearing Hope2019’s story, I may call State ed tomorrow just to be sure ?

Ah. We don’t have public policy at our school. That probably counts in place of Participation in Government or AP Gov. I’m sure your counselor is right.

@EENYMum my S17 dropped Calc AB for 2nd semester senior year.

At the time of his drop he had all of his acceptances but I made him notify all of his Schools (7) He wasn’t happy but I felt better seeing a ā€œnot an issue for us and thanks for letting us knowā€ email from each.

I love this thread but haven’t posted because my D19 doesn’t fit in the bracket. However, D21 most likely will.

Is there a thread like this for her year? I haven’t been able to find it yet.

Thanks to all for sharing your experiences and for your healthy, positive attitudes towards this process which have really helped me!

@3SailAway @eandesmom could probably tell you how to start one. ā€œIf you build it, they will come.ā€

I’m hoping for one for the class of 2020 as well!

@Marcie123 There is a 3.0-3.4 thread for the class of 2020 already:

@eh1234 thank you! Heading there now!

D19 received acceptence from Geneseo today!! So happy, it is her top SUNY choice. We had heard decisions were not coming until early March so this was a complete, and welcome, surprise!

That’s great news @EENYMum ! Geneseo is a favorite of many strong students around here!

That’s wonderful! @EENYMum

@EENYMum Congrats to your daughter!! What a nice surprise.

Congrats to your D @EENYMum ! She’s getting a nice list of choices!

Anyone touring this weekend? Not long now until all RD decisions are released.

My D and I are going to a scholarship competition at Ohio Wesleyan in two weeks.
