Nice @momzilla2D!
Hopefully the merit helps!

@2019hope how in the world, or why would one jump through those hoops in February and the idea of a hard deadline in May is nuts to me.

For anyone considering rush it’s definitely school dependent. I am not aware of any girls I know that have had to do any of this at my Alma Mater or at others that friends D’s have rushed and pledges at.

Per our Panhellenic LOR’s can be submitted but are not required and yes, legacy can be an advantage but that’s it. To be fair we are definitely not southern!

It isn’t for everyone but I can truly say that joining one was one of the best decisions I could have made. I have a bi weekly dinner club with my sisters, and just returned from a week long vacation with about half of that dinner club.

Outside of siblings and my parents these sisters are the longest relationships of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I went into it blind with no preconceived notions (not even realizing I was a legacy at one house) and that’s hard to imagine how bit I really think that helped me make the right choice. For me.

@momzilla2D congratulations!!! That’s wonderful news!

@momzilla2D Congrats to your D, what a pleasant surprise! Where does URI stand in her estimation?

Thanks @Britmom5 @JBSeattle @eandesmom @Acersaccharum
I’m not really sure where URI stands with my D. It was a late add and we didn’t discuss. She just texted me from school one day and said she applied. She hasn’t visited, but it seems they take nearly everyone who applies from her school (per Naviance), so maybe she added it as a safety? But it does tick a lot of her boxes. And it’s the closest to home (not sure whether she sees that as good or bad, lol).

Congrats on the URI acceptance @momzilla2D ! URI was on my D’s list for the longest time, and the only reason she took it off is I was insistent to drop the # of applications she was submitting to. (In other words, Just Blame Mom.)

While not official it appears D19 is being denied by Clemson. She will be crushed since it is her top choice. We tried to temper expectations as we knew it was a reach for her and her stats. In addition, the Naviance data from our HS is not good at Clemson. Over the past three years the admit rate is 34% from our school versus the 47% reported in the CDS, not sure why it is so low.

Congrats to all the acceptances, how wonderful. I’m still pretty much a newbie here with my first child attending college 2019. Have you begun receiving financial aid letters from schools? We have yet to receive any which is important to compare the better aid and choose a school.

So D19 begging to drop AP Gov (1/2 year course…first class yesterday). Her GC is fine with it (we did not understand that she had fulfilled senior social studies requirement w two DE classes last semester). The AP Gov class is a notorious teach yourself class and first day apparently proved that. Plus kids only have from yesterday until May 6th to learn everything and take AP exam. I don’t oppose dropping the class but I can’t get it through D19’s head that she has to notify schools. GC doesn’t seem to think it is too important either and she has a full schedule with 3 other APs and DE and health and just finished a semester with 3 APs and 3 DEs. GC said AP Gov was more of an elective in her schedule. Accepted to all schools but 2 so far. Advice?

@DCNatFan what are you basing your opinion on? Was she notified ?

I’m so sorry @dcnatfan. How do you know?

Oooops - didnt know Carolinamom2boys had just asked you that. Sorry

I’ve been tracking the Clemson thread and people have figured out a hack where you enter your Clemson XID number to set-up student housing. People have been checking periodically and when accepted it asks for your activation code versus a message of “unable to determine acceptance status”.
The higher stat applicants saw this change the past couple of months and it usually changes a week before getting the letter in the mail.
The message changed this morning for a bunch of people, which makes sense since letters are expected in the mail next week.
Like I said not official but it is not looking good. Of course, I have not said anything to her and she is eagerly awaiting something in the mail next week.

@DCNatFan Last year, I had a friend who’s daughter was offered Spring admission if she attended a four year institution in the Fall and earned a 3.0 GPA . She declined . Is that something she would entertain if offered?

@carolinamom2boys We have not discussed that option at Clemson. We thought it would be a possibility for UMD and she did not seem to like the idea. She ultimately did not get into UMD so it didn’t matter.

On the bright side we did get her first semester grades today and she managed to keep up the GPA with a 3.71 WGPA for the semester. Hopefully, this will help with the schools where she was deferred (Elon, JMU and U of Miami).

@DCNatFan that’s great about her GPA.

That’s so discouraging @DCNatFan. I’m so sorry. Is she keeping her spirits up? Do you have any safeties lined up?

@EENYMum For whatever it’s worth, my D just dropped a full year Honors elective after second semester (she hated it) and replaced it with a 1/2 year Honors elective. The dropped class will show on her transcript as “Withdraw - Passing”. She emailed the rep for her college of choice and he responded “I have no problem with that”.

Thanks @eb23282 ! GC said there were no other 1/2 year courses she could switch into. But hearing your experience does make me feel better
