D was just offered $8k in merit from Longwood. She still won’t be attending, but it was nice to see that OOS students could get some money.
Definitely not a school for this thread. Our Naviance shows the stats as 18% acceptance - 3.8/1330
Never really updated with my 3.4 kid–
Knox–significant merit
Eckerd–significant merit
Clark–significant merit
UW-Madison–accepted
UW-LaCrosse–accepted, $1000 scholarship
U of MN–deferred
Skidmore–still waiting
He has all but decided that Eckerd will be his place. A visit there changed his indifference into total excitement.
@brickkicker Congratulations to you son! He has been very successful!
@eb23282 ooooh Thanks for the info. Not for my D 20 either then. her SAT score right now is 1080. We’re really hoping by the end to get her into the 1200s.
@brickkicker Congrats on all the great options!
@brickkicker Congrats! Amazing options for your son! Would you mind me asking your sons standardized test scores? I applied to UW Madison w a higher GPA, but my scores were only in the low-mid 1200s. Are you instate?
@cakeisgreat has your D20 tried the ACT? Our D19 took it this past fall and did considerably better than on SAT.
@EENYMum Thanks for the suggestion. We considered it but she hates testing (anxiety) and we tried doing both SAT and ACT with the other three kids, and each one of them ended up with exactly the same scores when translated. She’s not good at science so that wouldn’t be a booster, so we figured we’d forego it with her
Loved the school and campus, but not sure many students with lower 3.x GPA’s are getting in. My D was waitlisted with a 3.9UW/4.4W and 1430 SAT, and a lot of demonstrated interest (many visits since it’s close and she had a friend going there she’d visit as well).
Can you commit to more than one school to ensure housing? I noticed at most colleges you have to commit before you can obtain housing. Our fear is the lack of decent housing since still undecided - what if any is the penalty?
@cakeisgreat Here’s what was the deciding point with 2 kids I tutor: how afraid are they of the free response and no-calculator sections of the SAT? One of my former tutoring kids was deathly afraid of both, so the ACT was an easy choice for her.
At Ohio Wesleyan with my daughter (she is in a business class right now). They are pulling out all the stops but my daughter is very fixated on location and Delaware, Ohio is not doing it for her. Tomorrow is the Scholarship competition.
They have a neat thing here where you can apply for a grant for almost anything and likely get it. A kid went to The Grand Canyon to take pictures. The other cool thing is that 30 is a large class here, many courses are 10-15 students. Seems like a great environment. Price is good as is but would be incredible if they gave her more $.
@JBSeattle It’s too bad she is not being swayed by the red carpet. Has she had similar courting from any other school? Maybe it will sink in over time. It would be interesting to talk with students about whether they feel that red carpet treatment plays out over their years as matriculated students.
@schadret Thanks for the info! D20 would probably be rejected then unless she gets a much higher SAT. Her GPA is growing but not sure she will hit a 4.0 W or UW.
@JBSeattle it looks like a cute town. If there is lots to do on campus, there is less reason to venture out.
Good news today - D19 was accepted at VA Tech.
@JBSeattle I’ve been patiently awaiting your report as OWU is a school I’d like my S21 to consider. What is it about Delaware that’s not working for her?
Congrats @DCNatFan
Congratulations @DCNatFan
