Parents of the HS Class of 2019 (Part 2)

Wonderful! Best of luck to her!

Minor update - she now has her student visa. While she’s still waiting for a response about housing, that will not keep her from starting. We have friends/colleagues at McGill who would be happy to host her or find a place for her, if grad student housing doesn’t work out.

I missed this last post, but that’s great news. If she’s going to study at McGill, that should be a wonderful experience both academically and otherwise - Montreal is such a great city! What’s happening with the NSF is a crime, but right now, studying in Canada makes obvious sense. Our S19 is wrapping up his master’s program in the UK and will be going back to the US for a few days next week to attend graduation at his old school Denison. This is the last class where he feels close to many of his old teammates and, as a former campus tour guide, he seems to have paternal feeling towards the class and their parents in general, many of whom he first met on tours. He’s hoping to go back to the US longer-term beginning later this year to do his practical training and certification in sports psychology. I wish he could do that in Canada!

I can’t believe it’s been six years since our kids graduated high school! I hope everyone is doing well and having a nice summer. Just a little update about S and his plans to work abroad for a year with his company. He was hoping for Australia but knew that was kind of a long shot. Instead he’s heading to Casablanca! I’m sad for me but excited for him, and very relieved that he’s not going to one of his other options. Also, he has some experience in Morocco since he spent a month there surfing during his big travel adventure after college graduation. He’s looking forward to learning French, and it shouldn’t be too difficult since he knows Spanish and Italian fairly well. Hopefully he can learn some Arabic too. He’s working on the visa process and will likely move in August. Other than that he’s had a busy spring with work, but got to take a super fun vacation with a friend in Europe and show him some of his favorite cities. Plus, they added Monaco and Nice, which were new for S. I always enjoy hearing updates about your kiddos.

He’s gotten to do so much @elena13! That’s awesome!

This is my update from last weekend:

Everything went fantastic, it was the wedding of her dreams. They’re at Lake Tahoe till tomorrow and the pictures look like it’s been amazing, zipline, climbing, horse riding, hiking, all the adventures.

They’re living with DD’17 for now and looking for a townhouse closer to their jobs. SIL got a good job after his masters graduation, and DD is at her dream job still ā€œtemporaryā€ but I’m 95% sure she will be permanent by fall.

Just got back from helping my kid settle into her place in Montreal. Her boyfriend came along to help her as well. She did get to move into her residence early, and so it seems did everybody else in the unit. She already started new student orientation, and is engaged in setting up things like bank accounts, etc. So she is now officially a grad student.
