Yes (sorry). I don’t know if it’s new, or if it started at Michigan, but yes that’s what they’re calling it.
Haha thanks! As a Capricorn I definitely concur!
It appears to just mean deferred, but I agree that was very unnecessary:
Nope. Not new. Its been that for a few years.
Okay, I was nervous as my friend in college counseling at a private alerted me to big numbers just getting deferred at some schools due to running out of time and was scared that was a whole nee term for this scenario. Oof, I vote for term consistency.
Congratulations!! Also, I think since you have two - you should get two separate bragging posts on both threads. You are still being incredibly modest.
I get it! My older kid was rejected from a CSU we considered a safety. It’s a wild ride.
Alright, I’m done worrying about things now.
S24 got accepted to UNC OOS. But he is deferred at UMich.
I was expecting the opposite based on UNC/Umich postings.
At least 1 school he is happy with under his belt, we will wait it out and make the final decisions later.
And that’s why they play the games (inevitable sports metaphor given context).
Woohoo!
Congratulations .
Tons do! D21 and D23 accumulated AO emails and/or written snail-mail letters after RD acceptance from Penn, Duke, Wake, Davidson, William&Mary, WashU, Northwestern , Dickinson, Fordham and probably others I forgot. It is a nice touch! And I am sure helps yield. Some addressed very specific things in ECs/essays, others were more generic but still personal.
D24’s BFF got accepted to Univ of Richmond today! It was her friend’s top pick. So excited for her!
Congrats! And Congrats!
Great news for a lot of us today!
Not to mention the fact that how the top UCs are admitting students is hard to figure, as the published data suggests that high stats kids at high-achieving schools are being admitted at lower rates than the strongest students at less-high-achieving schools. I think there is a lot of context-specific assessment going on with UC admissions and while I understand why that might be the case it is not as if these schools are being transparent about how their admissions processes operates. In short, if you have a really strong student at a high-achieving school, all bets are off.
Oh the stories I have of SoCal families moving from high-income, competitive school districts to lower achieving ones because of this.
I think everyone should post on the school thread AND on the class thread! Not all of your online friends follow school specific threads and yet we all want to celebrate your happy news!
S24 had 4 schools where he got results today.
Accepted to UMD and Wisconsin
Postponed from UMich and denied from UIUC.
He was admitted to Case western and few others with Merit before the holidays. So now we wait for the UC’s and UW seattle to come in March and we see how things go.
S24 is now happy that he has some good choices and he can start narrowing things down.
Our school has a high rate of acceptance at the top UCs because very few apply… they are highly qualified and achieved quite a bit despite having fewer resources.
I don’t think we need to put down our regular public school kids here. There are not enough spots for all of the amazing kids in this state Some don’t get in but have opportunities elsewhere.
Wow
