Maybe that’s the reward WE all get at the end of this?
We are also having a mild panic attack because on Friday morning, the AO from one of S’s top EA choices emailed and asked for first-marking-period grades to be sent directly from the school. They said they would review S’s application soon and needed them ASAP. I have emailed and called the guidance counselor twice, but there has been no response.
Maybe a dumb question but are emails from schools about missing items in apps common? Do they cc the parent email? I tried to suggest my child share either her email account or portal logins and got a huff and an eyeroll. I’m worried she’ll miss something critical. Curious how much I need to push this.
Can he go in to see the counselor at lunch today? This is what my S had to do. The counselors are so overloaded at his school right now!
If you can I would get the email and portal login info. I did not get a parent email cc when information was requested. If I had not checked one of his portals we would have missed a very important message about an audition. The kids are just so busy right now, I don’t think they have the time or the bandwidth to be keeping up on the follow up stuff. Especially the kids applying to 10+ schools or with many supplemental requirements!
I made my son email the admissions counselor for his top choice and confirm that nothing was missing. The portal for the school isn’t all that clear, so I didn’t want him to take chances. He emailed this weekend, and I hope he will hear back before November 1st.
if his app is in and he is missing something on the school side on November 1st he will not be penalized.
As it turns out, we (parents as a cc) JUST received an email from one of D25’s schools re a scholarship opportunity. I point this out only because I am close to 100% sure that she has received other emails directly from that school and others that we have not been copied on. In fact, this is the ONLY email to which we have been copied and she has so far applied to four schools.
My point is that receiving an email (parents) is likely to create a false sense of security in receiving all important emails related to an application.
When D25 and I discussed this, her eye roll emitted a physical force - so that subject was dropped. I accept this as any consequences of missing something are fully on her and she understands that. The significant downside to this from my perspective is missing a scholarship opportunity.
This is the way.
Thanks. That’s good to know. I also wanted him to reach out so that he could reiterate his interest in the school, which he did. I will be so happy when these decisions roll in, and perhaps we can breath a sign of relief.
I am letting my son take a personal day on Friday. I’m sure there will be a few seniors missing . In the big scheme of things, it’s the right choice.
Our HS has no school on Friday. I’m confident that there will be MANY seniors finishing up some applications.
Yes, there will be!
For Nov 1 deadline, is that at midnight Thursday night? Or, 11:59 PM Friday night?
Per CollegeVine it’s 11:59pm on Nov 1st.
It is a shameless collusion between the College Board and the schools that participate in it. They deliberately ask for information about your assets in a way that minimizes your financial obligations. I am letting my kid apply to this particular school but I am not happy about it!
More CSS Profile kvetching: I’ve been spoiled up to this point, because while Child1 went to a CSS school, they dropped it after her second year—so we only had to fill it out two years for her. Child2 applied to a couple CSS schools, but that wasn’t anything additional, because it just piggybacked on the last year Child1 needed it (ETA: and she ended up not going to a CSS school anyway). Child3 didn’t apply to any CSS schools.
So here having to fill it out this year for Child4 is largely a reminder of how much I hated it, dredging up deep memories I’d forgotten. (Not to mention that I still don’t know if I filled in the “untaxed benefits” part right, even after going through their guidance documents. Like, does the cost of the life insurance policy my spouse’s employer takes out on her with said company as beneficiary count? But she’s a part-owner of the firm, so it would be a benefit to her estate. But no, no chance of a clear answer, ever. It feels like a huge game of gotcha.)
Friday night. It would be extra cruel if the last minute kids (there are MANY of them - we’ve been there too!) had to do this on Halloween night.
In good news, though, C25 is now done with the five(!) essays one college requires for their really good scholarship. (A full ride, so I get setting a high bar, but five really does excessive no matter what, especially on top of the two required for admission.)
The deadline for that application comes 12 November (there are a couple other small supporting-documents items the child needs to put together for it, but they’ll be easy after the essays). Then there are two more colleges with essay requirements due on 15 November, and two more with essay requirements due 1 December.
And then it’s done!! Well, excepting potential additional honors program and scholarship applications. But at least as far as what we know about now, that’s what’s left.
This post makes my head hurt. That is a crazy amount of work - maybe C25 will swap with you and do the CSS if you do the essays?
