Trinity (CT) just came through big time. There was nice merit with the acceptance, but the full FA package was just uploaded to S25’s portal, covering full tuition. We knew they were a meet-needs school, but this is a bit beyond, and we are so, so grateful.
That’s amazing! Great school too.
Yes, the waiting. Waiting on one on Friday and two more next week (now that he withdrew the other).
Part of me just wants him to withdraw them all, he’s taken some of these decisions so hard and so personally it’s just not healthy. The other part of me gets it’s part of life. I don’t know.
Wow - that is fantastic!! It must take a huge load off. What a great option to have.
Congratulations!
Izzy, you are not alone! I lurked the admitted students page for the one school we are awaiting and their day is in one week, with another mid-April conflicting with a different admitted students day. On the West Coast we have to stay on top of travel because it takes up so much time to fly to the East Coast with time difference and indirect flights. It’s how we missed the fall focus day of the same school - notice too late to scramble. We just came to the conclusion we would have to visit on a regular day if our kid gets lucky. Best to you with the decisions!
I did the exact same thing, although without planes - refundable hotels and Amtrak tickets for two admitted students days in mid-April. Maybe it will be GOOD luck for our kids!
Exactly! It’s a west coast/east coast issue for us too. Unless you want to ride in a middle seat for 5K a person, you have to book a few weeks ahead of time!
I feel because you got refundable you’ll be ok. Non-refundable would be the issue
We’re torn because our flight home from our spring break Admitted Student Days will be from one of two different cities, depending on what we hear next week. Wondering if we should just get the known one and then change it if necessary.
We’re in the same boat. Have flights booked but might need to completely rearrange depending on results. One week left … it cannot come soon enough!
I am thankful that the colleges my daughter is considering are all driving distance. She has ruled out the only one that requires a flight. She just signed up for an admitted student day in April at one school and almost immediately thereafter got an acceptance at another school with admitted student day on the same weekend. Fortunately, they are on different days and only about two hours apart.
You might need a more recent report anyway for accommodations, FYI…
He’s not going to use accommodations. He’s got a small handful in his IEP now, but he is barely using them in HS. Realistically, I don’t see him making use of them in college either. Really what he needs is an exec function coach, and that’s not something colleges seem to provide. But if he doesn’t get his meds, than it’s total disaster time, so I need to get that figured out once he decides if he’s staying in-state or not.
Just booked lodging for move-in day for August. The first hotel we looked at was $600 per night (I checked a random night in May and same room is $154) - per room. After coming to after blacking out for a moment we seem to have landed on a lovely Airbnb rental for less than half the cost and with more room. The only downside with the Airbnb vs the hotel is that we won’t get to wheel our luggage all the way from the parking lot down several hallways and wait for an elevator.
This reminds me of the college town where I used to live. Our neighbors turned their garage into a short-term rental and made a killing during graduation, move-in, reunion, and parents weekend. Our house was too full of baby stuff and dogs to ever get our acts together to be gone during those times.
Someone warned me of this! In FebI booked a refundable hotel (as most are) at my kids most likely school for move in and fall family weekend already. You just have to remember to cancel:)
Other 2 most likely are like 75 minutes away…so could go back/forth if we need to for a day..
Yes, I did this now for the very reason I feared there would few options later, at any price, and this would at least limit the carnage.
D25’s top two schools right now both have the added advantage of relatives we could stay with who live in the same towns. No hotels needed.
So, back in the day, my aunt and uncle lived in the same town as my college. I didn’t see them often, but they did have us (my roommate and I) over about once a month for a meal. Super nice touch and something that I should have been more grateful for at the time than I was.
They also let me crash in their basement for a summer during law school when I clerked. That, I did appreciate.
We’re doing an AirBnB also. We booked parent’s weekend at the same time.
