Wow 22 athletes- good luck to them! Hopefully they get a bid!
That is great to know. We have been following some nursing accounts on Tik Tok but itās great to hear from someone in state. My daughter is on the quiet side and not that interested in the college party scene. We will continue to discuss both options. But she does not want to do to college her senior year- and I agree with her.
I have 2 local colleges scheduled over spring break. I plan to do the rest of our in state schools this summer- so we can start a list (or cross them off the list).
My daughter is taking APUSH this year. She doesnāt love it - was never a huge history fan but she was in A level history last year and had 100 - her teacher told her she needed more of a challenge. Work load is doable - she is also taking 3 honors and a heavy athletic schedule. Her history buff friends are loving it.
Sounds good! Glad your D is finding it manageable. My D is still a little worried about the workload on top of everything else sheās doing (APUSH has a scary reputation at our HS ), but she did decide last week to sign up for it.
My S26 is taking:
AP Chem
AP Studio Art (drawing)
AP Seminar
Honors Pre-Calc
US History (regular)
English (regular)
Japanese 3 (third year Japanese)
Finally decided to request:
IB English HL
IB Math AA HL (heās in AP Calc AB now, so this could be repetitive, but we are hoping itās okay)
IB Physics HL
AP Music Theory
Band
mechatronics
civis/econ
Hopefully he does well with this.
Same here- APUSH is supposed to be the āworst/hardestā class in the school. D26 is doing Honors instead.
D26 has decide to take
APUSH
AP Lang
AP Calc AB
AP Physics C
Adv Journalism (she is an editor, may become the business manager)
Visual art
Am a bit worried that this seems like a heavy load. But she loves history so APUSH is non-negotiable. Lets see maybe the Physics will be downgraded to regular Chem. She took reg Physics this year and found it easy. No much wiggle room in the others.
Has she already done some calc? At our HS, physics C can only be paired with Calc BC and even then, the physics class goes ahead of the calc class in math, and calc ends up being review.
No she hasnāt. But I am a Math & Physics teacher (got my PhD in Astrophysics from JHU way back when) so I can help her with any Calc/Physics related issues. In fact, we plan to do a decent chunk of those 2 courses over the summer to make sure her junior year is easy or as easy as it can be. But it is the other 2 APs and Journalism that is worrying me, she enjoys them but they are a real time suck - I can see her spending oceans of time writing and rewriting essays ⦠oh well. Itās what she wants to do ā¦
Thatās awesome! I wish we had a Math & Physics teacher in-house
D26 will be taking:
APUSH
AP English Lit
AP Spanish
AP Calc AB
Honors Physics
an AP elective - sheās hoping for Comparative Govāt
1 other elective
D 26 will be taking:
AP Lang
AP Environmental Science
Honors US History
CP 1 Algebra 2
CP 1 Spanish 3
CP 1 Physics
1 other elective (hoping for an honors level half year science course)
My D26 just registered ā classes are:
AP Lang
AP Physics 1
AP US History
AP Comp Sci Principles
HH (high honors) Pre-Calc
H Spanish 3
H Beginner Guitar
My S26 is considering to take
AP Eng Lang
AP Calc BC
AP Physics 2
AP Econ
AP Spanish
He has already completed Honors Biology(his middle school is integrated with HS; he took this in 8th grade) and AP Chem (Freshman). In sophomore, he is taking AP Physics 1.
He likes Physics, and he is planning AP Physics C in senior year. Not interested in AP Biology/ AP Environmental Science.
We are debating between AP Physics 2 and AP Seminar. His counsellor is alluding to AP Seminar, but he thinks he needs 4 years of science in HS. Also, he says that he canāt handle AP Physics C in junior year.
Looking for pros and cons of AP Physics 2 Vs. AP Seminar in junior year for his background.
My gut feeling is neither. I think a fourth science in high school would be most valuable, but three physics courses seems excessive. Physics 2 is not a prerequisite for Physics C. I would encourage him to take a life sciences course in 11th grade. My reason is that some schools may expect to see a life sciences course taken in high school. Since he is not interested in the AP offerings, does his school offer Anatomy and Physiology or other science elective? Not all his courses need to be AP level.
Physics 2 pro: He likes physics. con: unlikely to earn college credit for this course. Could explore a different science in 11th and return to physics in 12th.
Seminar: pro: He must take this course if he wants to take Research senior year. Some high schools reserve highest honors for students completing Capstone (Seminar and Research). con: If a college offers credit for seminar it is usually either a general elective credit or credit for the same English course as AP English Language. A fourth science credit earned in high school is likely to be more valuable.
Thank you very much, Aejmom.
Iām a big fan of AP Seminar, even though in D22ās experience no school gave credit for it. D22 took it and S26 is taking it right now (he hates it because it is a lot of work )
I like it, because, in my opinion, it actually teaches tangible college prep skills, lots of writing and public speaking.
I wish she would take AP seminar but she wants AP Lang. Oh well
