I got this email from BigFuture, and S26 was also sent the same email. Is this legit? I’ve never heard of this award before.

Back home now. Kid said although today’s test was harder than yesterday, she’s sure that she passed it. Next up is APUSH on Friday. Kid is staying home from school tomorrow. No point in going in person tomorrow since it would be study hall all day anyway.

Yes, it’s legit—my daughter got the Small Town/Rural one a couple years ago. The School Recognition Award is new this year. My son went ahead and submitted for both. It’s just something to list in the Awards section of the Common App if they don’t have much else.

Now my son is unofficially a National Merit Commended Scholar (he made the cutoff). Is the difference basically national (Commended) versus local (this award)?

The difference is National Merit Commended is based on the index score for the 11th grade PSAT, while the Recognition Program offers more opportunities and paths for recognition (top 10 percent of either PSAT 10 or NMSQT; or 3+ on two AP exams taken in 10th grade).

I got the college board email as well and wasn’t sure about it. But I guess I will have S26 fill it out.
We also got a reminder to ask for rec letters early! S26 told me today that two of his teachers won’t be back before end of school year. One is his English teacher, whom he was briefly considering asking for a rec letter for a leadership role he is applying for. He ended up asking others anyway but still a wake up call to ask for those college rec letters now.

In the next 9 days, my son has 4 AP exams, 3 track meets, prom, his last band concert, and Multicultural Night. He still has four weeks of school after that, but hopefully it will be quiet in comparison!

H&M is exactly where we went when my daughter needed to have business casual for a pretty big interview. And that is now her interview outfit lol. It’s the only outfit like that that she owns so she wears it to every single interview. When she has to dress up for something for school, she wears a dress instead, but she prefers pants and a nice top for interviews.

So we just got an email from college board that says that my daughter is qualified for the college board national recognition program. I’m assuming it’s because she is in a rural school, since she’s not a part of any other under represented community.
Is this something that’s legit? Google is tough because it just keeps bringing me back to college board pages. I feel like at some point there’s going to be a money grab. The email looked slightly spammy. It just reminds me of getting the notification that they wanted you to be included in one of the Who’s Who books. Which of course means that then you spend money to buy the book.
