Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Talk about vibe - sending all the positive vibes to you supporting kiddos with the 11/1 EA/ED deadlines.

D26 is over here dragging out the UC PIQs … I keep trying to convince her not to apply. She’s so burned out. This time of year is hard on all of them.

Can we fast forward to Thanksgiving? (And hopefully many more acceptances )?

Oh my word, that whole transcript mess is nuts. So sorry you have to deal with this! Your kid did everything she was supposed to, the thing was sent in plenty of time, and now the college needs to get it together. For the love, indeed.

Love your decision matrix to compare schools! We’ll definitely have to do something similar for D26 – if it all goes well, she’ll probably be choosing among four schools. And she is not good at making decisions, lol.

My D22’s final decision was between two schools, and they were pretty equal in cost and quality of program and several other factors (although the good folks here at CC got into a heated argument about which had more prestige, LOL). In the end, she went with vibe.

My S25 last year toured three schools in-state. He liked each of them for different reasons, but one was farther away than he wanted to drive, and another one was right downtown and didn’t have the campus feel he wanted. So, the third one it was. That was easy, lol.

Solidarity with all of y’all (and your kids) feeling the stress this week!

I am, too, except only tangentially due to app deadlines. D26 had all the time in the world to make this 2-minute video for Miami Ohio’s game design major, but she just now is looking at the specifics, and she realized she’s not supposed to show her face – it’s supposed to be voice-over while she shows things she’s created. So, back to the drawing board on that. And she’s not sure if it’s due Friday at midnight or Saturday at midnight. Oy. That’s on her, though.

She asked a friend to do a peer recommendation for one school that requires it, and he has not yet. It’s due Nov 15, but she told him Nov 1, lol. Unclear whether he has even acknowledged the email, and she has not followed up. So, yeah.

But otherwise, juggling a bunch of life stuff. D22 messaged today saying her phone had died. Newish phone under warranty, so no problem, we can replace it – but she’s desperate to turn it on to pull off her data. It will not turn on. (Have we told her to back up often? Yes, yes we have.) She has tried every sort of hard and soft reset, you name it. Oy. Fingers crossed UBreakIfix can salvage it tomorrow.

D26 auditioned for the musical yesterday and was called back for some bit parts tomorrow. (Which is fine, she doesn’t really sing or dance, just wants to be on stage for some big ensemble numbers and maybe have a line or two.) Fingers crossed that happens. The bigger audition is next week for the spring play – there are a couple roles in that that she really wants, and she has a good shot, but there is a lot of competition.

My parents (who live in assisted living in another state) are trying to sell some property, and they don’t know what they’re doing, and I’m trying to assist from afar. They have an offer. This sale is happening more than a decade later than it should have. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

S25 has had a rough few weeks for several reasons. And he just found out today that he didn’t get a job that he applied for that he really wanted at the campus TV station. 20 people interviewed and went through the training, and they made 4 offers. I told him to follow up and make nice in an email, and he got a response saying so sorry we can’t offer you a paid position right now, but please come in next week to talk to us about some volunteer stuff, and then we can chat again about a paid position. I got a text saying, “You were right, mom, followup email was a good call.” HA! Imagine. We’re driving out tomorrow to see him and go to his “film premiere” – too much to detail here, but I want to lay eyes on him and make sure he’s okay.

Too many other piddly life things going on, and my brain is going through it. Bah!

well, it turns out that the counseling office DID send the transcript in on time…it was submitted through SCOIR back on 10/20 and the college DID download it on 10/25. But so much swirling drama over this at one school. Glad that this will all be over with pretty soon.

Hey everyone. I haven’t been here for weeks because it’s been SO CRAZY here with marching band EVERY WEEKEND in October on top of football games, leaving S26 barely any focused time on his college apps. It was stressing me out so much!

Well, S26 just submitted 7 EA apps this evening. I sat next to him as a second pair of eyes and to pay for the app fees. :joy: Praying he did everything right lol.

I’m ecstatic. Probably more so than him! :joy:

Now for the 5 remaining RD apps due January. Phase 2 of nagging. God help me, but at least the Common app essay is done! Just a few more supplemental essays.

Anyone else’s kid have RD apps? My S26 is doing RD to schools with no EA options.

sometimes it feels like you’re spinning a bunch of plates, doesn’t it?

Pitt opened up regular visits for admitted students starting in February – short presentation plus one-hour campus tour, weekdays only. 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We registered for Tues, Feb 17 – kid has the day off school, and we’ll likely fly up on Monday midday and try to see some of the city.

Who wants to meet us there? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

(I think you can only get to this through the portal. There are still five full-fledged admitted student days between now and end of March that offer a lot more, but none of them work for us.)

BANDTOBER is brutal!

But yay on getting the apps in! I can feel your relief, lol.

No additional apps here – mine submitted 7, and she’s done. She has expressly forbid me from continuing to research schools. :joy: There were a few she turned down recently that I really think she should have applied to, but she was not interested in my opinion, lol.

Yeah… the UCs… (not started, ha ha)… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Plus a few RD apps that don’t have EA, but I’m guessing these might fall off the list like they did for S23.

D26 has officially decided to NOT apply to UT-Dallas because she really doesn’t want to attend there. I’m glad because that’s $75 that I won’t have to spend on an application. :joy: This means that all of her college apps are done.

Your D got accepted to Pitt? Congratulations!:tada:

Yes, Bandtober! S26 has 1 football game this Friday, a marching band assessment AND the last band competition this Saturday! After this weekend, he’s got Senior Night football game! The last one.

Then back to writing more supps for his last remaining RDs.

Wine me.

Yay to being done! Now the wait!

Glad we’re not the only one! I hear you on the waning interest after RD apps. It’s so hard to get motivated again. My S23 did the same, abandoned his RD apps…there were only 2.

Yes! And I have you to thank – she looked into the Digital Narrative and Interactive Design major you told us about, and she figured out if she paired it with an art minor, it would check off all her boxes! So thank you!

You missed a whole flurry of Pitt acceptances recently, lol. It’s really popular among this group! The big question now is whether she’ll want to march at Pitt, or whether it will be way too overwhelming.

Oh that makes me so happy to hear your D got into Pitt! Congrats to others as well!

You’re welcome! Great to hear that DNID and art checks off all her boxes! Pitt highly encourages its students to explore different areas of study like DNID and art! Best of luck to her as she hears from more schools!

It was mainly because it’s so popular here that I encouraged C26 to apply - it was on the list their counselor gave them but they kind of ignored it because they didn’t know much about it.

If mine lands there, it will definitely be because of this board!

Same! My son was admitted on 10/2 but nothing in the mail yet. We’re attending the 11/8 admitted students day (Swanson)

UC app - holy PITA! I know y’all are in state so probably worth it. But for this OOS family, it’s a hail mary and if she gets in to GaTech she’s not going to California. But the deadline is a week or so before those decisions are released. Her college counselor sent an update email yesterday with targeted submit on 11/12. almost there.
