Parents of the HS Class of 2026

I have heard lots of bad stories about Houston (United hub so people fly through there), but SFO has been mostly totally fine, even without pre check. Definitely differing impacts at different airports.

I have no idea if that is normal or not?

We were surprised by it. With all the research we put into this process- that never once came up.

We did know that it was a tighter timeline due to housing availably and there was a need to put a deposit down quickly to ensure a spot- but housing deposits do not start going out unil mid-February.
So we ā€˜thought’ that that was our timeline!

We were wrong :upside_down_face:

UK Unis require commitment by early May. I know it’s a different country but there’s so much cross-pollination between the two wrt universities I’m surprised it’s not the same.

Now that I know what I am looking for - I am finding some wording on their sites FAQs that mentions rolling decisions (which we knew) and your ā€˜place being’ held until your acceptance deadline.
But none of that wording stood out to us to mean - 30 days

They do say that you can request an extension- but there are no guarantee that you will get one and you may lose your place.

Not sure if this is just for internation students or all students- or for certain programs?

Good luck getting to RIT and congrats! We’re off to admitted students day at Pitt ad opted for a 9 hour train ride and had our flight refunded to be safe. We’re in NYC and were supposed to fly out of JFK. Sending you good vibes for a timely and smooth flight. Please send us some for the flight back! Otherwise, we will be on the train for 18 hours (if Amtrak is on time) in the span of 3 days!

Good luck with Amtrak! I (and I’m sure a number of others here) look forward to the feedback! We are booked to go the Saturday of C26’s spring break.

Good luck with the train! I’m hoping things are back to normal by the end of the month because we’re headed to the admitted students day on 12/1 and we have a very tight window, so no options other than to fly (from Boston). I am looking forward to your feedback on the school!

D26 got another email from a college stating that they want her counselor to email the transcript to them. Even though the counselor can see on SCOIR that they already downloaded it. 2nd email in a week about it. Doesn’t make it look like they’re very organized. Counselor isn’t going to email it to them, so if they can’t find it, they’ll just have to figure it out.

She also got her faculty advisor assignment for her senior project. That teacher told her that she was excited when she found out that D26 was assigned to her for the senior project because she thinks D26 is responsible, organized, and turns stuff in on time. D26 was pretty happy about that. Made my mom heart pretty happy.

Love this, but a pox on the college who misplaced her transcript!

Really good school. Interetsing fact about Baylor. Until 1996, they did not allow dances on campus. It wasnt officially banned, just frowned upon and never happened.

The college version of Footloose.

I. hope everyone traveling these next few weeks is free from difficulty. I flew ATL-DCA for work. flight delayed 2.5 hours due to air traffic control issues. I’m hoping my flight home is not canceled on Sunday. Amtrak would have been smart!

I just flew through PHL. It was fine except they shut down a couple of TSA checkpoints at terminals A and F. Of course my flight was at F but I know the the airport pretty well so I went to C terminal and took the shuttle to F.

You guys!!! S26 got home from his very last marching band rehearsal :face_holding_back_tears: ….AND just found out 10 minutes ago…..he got his first college acceptance!!! :face_holding_back_tears: He wasn’t expecting the decision until December, so he’s very surprised!! He got $50,500 in scholarships and grants. It’s a private school and one of his safeties. He’s surprised, relieved, and very happy!!!

My K-12 school was like this. Dancing was of the devil, we were told. I must have watched Footloose two dozen times in high school because I felt it on a visceral level.

So when I was looking at K-12 schools for our oldest, I was the crazy mom at the kindergarten info sessions raising my hand and asking if the school had prom. :joy:
