C26’s envelope from Pitt arrived today! Waiting for them to get home to open it.
Re access stuff - I have access to their portals but not their email. They’ve been pretty good at checking it though. I may do a video when they get their Boulder decision I wish I had done one for D19 with NYU but… neither of us really thought she was going to get in tbh (not that i said that to her of course). Although I did have a little something for her “just in case” (not swag, because I’m superstitious haha, but a copy of The Naked Roommate and a Violet Crumble!) We may both have shrieked a little when we saw the letter
So, I just learned that D26 has to have her RD app materials done and into her college counselors by early December because they do not work over holiday break (at least that is what they told the kids). “We” were shocked at this news coming so late! “We” had been planning things out with D26 having all of December to get those ones due Jan 10-15 done.
And then, D26 tells us she’s known this for months, she just never told us! She seems to think she has it all under control. We’re not as clear on how she plans to get all the remaining supplementals done in less than 3 weeks. I guess we will see.
P.S. The “we” above is me and my wife even though “we” thought D26 was part of that we since summer. Apparently not.
Oof. But, yeah. Our school’s final date to submit applications was Friday, November 14. They make a few exceptions for ED2 or extenuating circumstances, but on that day, they served cake to the seniors and said, congrats! You guys are DONE applying to college!
And that was that.
(And I only knew this because I had an older one go through the same system – and she was cramming to get them all done. D26 had far fewer supplemental essays, plus applied to fewer schools.)
I haven’t heard anything about the rest of our class (there are 118 total), but I did learn 6 of the 9 seniors in band applied. 2 got in, 4 were deferred. One of the kids that got in had a 1580 SAT – I know this because my kid was salty he beat her score by 20 points and killed the Star Student thing for her, lol. (He’s also one of her besties.)
ETA – just saw the principal from our local public school (where my D25 graduated from in May) post that 70+ students were accepted, and another 50+ were deferred. I know of one kid (friend of my son’s) who got the auto admit to honors, too. I don’t know exactly how many kids in the senior class this year, but his was around 460.
Did you see the info graphic of the stats? I’m always blown away by how competitive it’s become.
Congrats to those who got in. Those middle 50% stats are tough. My dd applied OOS and this is her most competitive school so it will be interesting to see. She hasn’t even visited and it isn’t at the top of her list so not stressed about it. How do they even sort it out with so many top kids and they say it’s mostly just going on stats at this point. Oh well we will see.
I feel for those in state kids with good stats who have so much stress over this. It’s tough when your in state school you grew up with becomes so tough to get in to.
Edit- oops thought I was on the UGA thread. That’s what I was referring to. Shouldn’t post when tired.
No worries, couple of us here from Georgia or nearby states, and UGA has a nicely transparent admissions blog, so it’s been discussed here a good bit. Good luck to your daughter!
The good news is UGA does take a lot of kids in the RD round with stats lower than this – it’s just the EA rounds that are this competitive.
It looks like RIT has started slowly releasing decisions!
Looks like mostly international but have seen a couple of others posting on reddit.
So now my anxiety and anticipation are pinging!!
We checked D26s portal yesterday and it still shows her application as EA instead of ED1.
I told her she should reach out and just verify that all is good and did she miss any needed steps for the change.
She basically told me (paraphrasing) to chill out and trust the process!!!
I am in fact not ‘chilling’ out nor trusting the process
Letting her drive this - but dang, my anxiety really wants to take over the process.
She did say that if it is not updated after the Thanksgiving break that she will reach out for verification. Figure that is good enough.
