Parents of the HS Class of 2026

We’ve got anxious and nervous moms all in one thread.

Understandable.

When my D22 was deferred from her ED, next three months until her first acceptance on around March 20 was the worst period of her life. I really didn’t want D26 to go thru the same, but D26 didn’t really have any EA school that she liked after her ED choice.

Similar situation as you, but D26 is pushing to get her regular decision apps done now as opposed to over break. Most of her top choice schools were either ED or RD with no EA option and she did not want to ED anywhere. So, we will wait to make decisions in April after the late March decisions come in. I think she is thinking about it as she’ll get the apps in this month, then not think about the topic anymore until March. Just live life since nothing will happen that matters. She does have two EAs that will come in January, but she would not choose either over the school she recently got accepted to so those are now irrelevant.

Yeah, that was my D’s plan since she got in all her apps (supposedly) and the UCs don’t release decisions until March. She was all about “Mom I am never going to look at another college app again!!”

Then today she texts me that she is thinking about applying to another college that was not on her list at all… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Yes! Our school had matches at Tufts, U Penn, and Princeton. So very happy for these kids!

Huge congrats to you - and such great schools. The Jesuit institutions are truly special.

D26 said her BFF said today that it WAS a QuestBridge scholarship that she got for UPenn! BFF told D26 she was a little frustrated because the notification came out just after she’d submitted all of her UC apps…which she has now withdrawn from, along with all of her other apps.

I am over the moon thrilled for D26’s friend. Just so so happy for her. She’s humble, down to earth, hard worker, responsible. I told D26 that on graduation day in May, she needs to help me find BFF’s parents so I can give them a big hug.

Ditto here - RD would come out in March AND they required a supplemental essay. Once she got an acceptance to one of her favorite EA schools, this school was done. And I get it!

Update: the acceptance came today and with quite a bit of merit, making this school less than her other OOS options, but it really isn’t the ideal school for her major. It was a last minute application (no app fee and no extra essay) because it is in her dream city, so I am sure she is excited dreaming of the possibility at least

Add me to this list, lol! Really just me, because D26 is kind of indifferent to Ga Tech – she’ll “consider it” if she gets in, but it’s maybe her fourth choice. And I’m pretty sure my husband is completely unaware that the decisions come out in two days. :joy:

I’m trying to remind myself repeatedly that just because it’s super convenient and super cheap and highly ranked and has a fantastic reputation, that doesn’t mean it’s a great fit.

Y’all tell me that again, please, if the kid happens to get in, lol.

That’s awesome – hooray and congrats!!!

That is so awesome! Having a top 3 bird in hand at this point in the process hopefully takes a load off. Regardless of what else happens, she is in at a school she really likes!

My son also applied EA to Quinnipiac! I’ll remind him to check the portal tonight.
