our high school’s year book doesn’t do this.
I bought an ad for S25 last year, and you know what, I don’t think he’s even seen it. I promptly forgot about it. Now I have to go look for it in the yearbook. ![]()
My girls’ school doesn’t sell senior ads in the back, so I didn’t have to worry about that, but they were/are both theatre kids, so I have bought a half-page shout-out in every single theatre program (and full page for their final show).
(Once when D22 had only a tiny bit part, I put in a text-only shout-out instead. She said, “I knew which one was from you even before I read my name. Who else would use the word ‘camaraderie’ in a shout-out?”
)
When I was a senior, I asked my parents if they’d put in a full-page yearbook ad for me, partially because I was the senior editor of the yearbook, lol, and that was clearly important to me at the time.
But what’s waaay worse is that my boyfriend (at the time) and I put in a half-page ad for ourselves, with a picture from a formal dance and the lyrics to “Heaven” by Bryan Adams printed alongside it. It’s the most cringe thing ever. My kids came across it years ago and fell on the floor laughing. ![]()
C26 doesn’t want an ad. Our deadline is Friday so.. will see if last minute change of mind.
I know they have a very seasonal business but goodness me, Jostens must make money hand over fist. Do they monopolize everywhere?!
I was just wondering about whether to do this or not. I’ll have to ask my daughter. I think she will probably want one. She didn’t care about any of the previous yearbooks but she seems to want this years.
I think I’m gonna do an ad. Maybe. She won’t care. It’s for me. I’ll own it.
I had no idea that some HS yearbooks allowed ads! Ours doesn’t.
After reading everyone’s posts, I’m guessing that’s why our HS doesn’t allow it.
Jostens does my son’s high school yearbooks, yes.
I just went digging through old emails from them, and I paid $280 for a half-page ad in S25’s senior yearbook. ![]()
A couple years ago when S24 was awaiting decisions, there was a whole crazy thing going on on the Cal thread where the smart nerdy computer kids figured out some crazy formula to see if a Cal email address had been created and if so, they were IN. It was nuts. My husband went to Cal and I was making fun of him saying that totally would have been him ![]()
Surprise admit today! D was admitted to both of the programs she applied to at UBC (Sciences & Applied Sciences). Typically admissions come later… we hope that the early admit is a sign that she’s in the running for a scholarship there. ![]()
D26 heard back from a professor today who she reached out to last week in her (D26’s) search for a senior project placement. Professor said they’d definitely be interested in being D26’s mentor for an online internship/senior project (D26 needs an online/remote one given the foot surgeries she’ll be recuperating from starting in Feb). Woo! D26 has been a little worried about not being able to find a senior project placement.
S26 accepted to Santa Clara University today! It is a very good fit for him and would be my top choice if I was the one picking. He will decide after all the decisions come through in March. He is almost too chill about where he ends up, but I am super excited for him.
A high school classmate of mine went to Santa Clara University. It’s a great school! Congrats!
A friend’s son is doing engineering there at the moment and he loves it. One of D19’s good friends went too.
Ok we are a go for senior ad… on condition the only photos are of the cats ![]()
There’s only one size option so no “competition”.
We’ve just confirmed that D26 1) had NO idea that you could have an ad in the yearbook, but 2) surprisingly was ok with the idea. I think we’re going for the 1/4 page ad, which is our mental equivalent of buying the second least expensive bottle of wine in a restaurant! ![]()
Yay!! Congratulations ![]()
Congratulations!!![]()
S26 got deferred at Santa Clara, but it was a reach for him, so not surprised. On the other hand, he got the Provost scholarship from Binghamton today, he is happy. From whatever research he has done on the web, he seems very interested in UPitt and Binghamton so far. But we’ll see. All the CA colleges decisions come in March, so I am sure things will change a lot between now and March.
My daughter‘s first choice, Colby, supposedly comes out Friday. They say on their website that decision is by the 15th, but in the past when I looked at their social media, decision always comes out the Friday before the 15th. So we’re thinking this Friday. She only applied to Colby and one other school. The other school she’s accepted to and she would be happy there as well so I think while I’m incredibly nervous I’m also Happy that she will be OK regardless of the answer.
I’m also getting the ad request. I’ve saved a few photos over the years in case we do one. I need to talk to my daughter though because she can be very particular about those things. And I really only want to do it if she would be OK with it.
I’m not sure my daughter’s school will do a year book. They didn’t last year! It’s so tiny, only 11 kids in class of 26.
Going on tonight….watching the Holiday classic, “Gremlins”. ![]()
