Congrats to all the recent acceptances!! Such an amazing time in their lives!

I laughed at this because I recently bought myself some hoodies – I wear two sizes larger than my D26, but she stole one of them and said, “Oh, this is perfect because it’s cutely oversized.”

Awesome! Congrats!!

D26 vacillates between wanting tight and midriff baring to huge and comfy; I never know what she’s going to want!

So fun to read about the acceptances, congrats!!

S26 still has not checked on his LSU decision, it’s been three weeks or so that the email has been sitting in the inbox  . He put down a housing deposit at one school, because that’s the only way he has a shot at a particular LLC that might come with a scholarship. And he is still working on his cohort program and scholarship applications for his top school (but it’s slow going

).

We won’t have a decision until later in the spring, because we will be waiting on financial aid and scholarship decisions. Although I’m getting the impression that he is leaning towards the first school that accepted him. It’s a non flagship public that’s popular in our area. And I have to give it to them, their communication is good, well spaced out and personalized. He applied to the business school and they make him feel like they want him to come. It’s more what I remember some of the private LACs D22 applied to did communication wise. I don’t like the school for a different reason, but I am impressed by their admissions office!

So funny you say this because I’ve been thinking similarly - the quality of the marketing really doesn’t need to correlate with the quality of the school. It’s so hard to separate them!

Totally agree with this. Some schools marketing is such a turnoff even if they are a great school. I haven’t experienced the inverse, that would be hard if D26 got sucked in by it.

It blows my mind how bad some of the more well-regarded schools are when it comes to their marketing. I think I mentioned here that a very popular, very prestigious state school starts all emails off to D26 as “Dear ,”. And another large, well-known private school addressed all of S23’s promotional letters as “Dear No,”. LOL.

Maybe it’s like that old “we’re #2 so we try harder!” ad?!
In this context i have to say that ASU has been pretty impressive in regular but not overloading emails, to both parent and kid about various things (ranging from housing options to watching the football game!) They really do seem to be trying hard. And I almost feel bad that C26 is all but certain not to go there (even though intellectually I know it is basically a well programmed CRM system and not some poor soul slaving away that is doing all this).

On a totally different topic, does anyone know how competitive the LLCs at Pitt might be? D19 had no interest in LLCs so I don’t know much about them, but there’s one at Pitt that (if C26 ends up there) looks of particular interest. And how does it work - do you apply with the housing app or do you apply before and get admitted to the LLC so you know to put it on the housing app?

Such a great news!! Congratulations :tada:

Yay!! Congratulations :tada:

Yes, I think this is some of what is going on there. It’s not a small school but they clearly read his LLC and scholarship applications and referred to the content in some of those emails. Our state flagship doesn’t need to try, they get plenty of apps and their emails are absolute cringe. Every email is titled “we are #1”. The only thing they are # 1 in is Baseball this year and in highest salary for a football coach :innocent: .

I’ve been following all the hullabaloo with the football coach! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

yep, at LSU you’ve got to have priorities, the roof of the library has been leaking for years but you can pay the football coach 90 million (and the governor is meddling in the school’s affairs big time, oy)

Although, you live in SEC country, so you will understand :innocent:

It’s soooo hard for these kids to focus on exams in the midst of all this! Mine has Calc BC tomorrow and AP Bio on Thurs, and then she’s done, thank goodness. My D22 flies home tomorrow, and we’re going to go see Santa on Thurs afternoon. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
