D26’s ED school hasn’t released their admitted student day dates either…
Just like Airbnb, I have heard of wildly mixed experiences of Turo. (And we have had wildly mixed outcomes with Airbnb /vrbo, from fabulous to downright awful.) I’m actually going off most of these services.
Same here. SO done with our HS, but that feels so wrong because it also means D26 heading off. The things we have put up with the past 4 years were unnecessary and I hope that college is better in terms of administration etc.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that ![]()

Every ATL public school on spring break + Jamaica hurricane making it not desirable I guess? I flew to Ireland for less than half of that!
I’m grateful we don’t travel for Cheersport… although snagging the parking pass for covered parking can be “fun.”
Oh wow, I’ve never experienced that. I’ve used Vrbo dozens of times, including in other countries. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky!
I have a childhood friend who works in one of the libraries where D26 is heading next year, and SHE has a friend who has a Airbnb in the town, so we have a nice connection there with a great spot to stay when we visit. So - lucky again I guess!![]()
I’m also so glad I have someone who can check in on my kiddo here and there.![]()
I tell my patients I have “mom of senior”-itis
Same! Apparently my kiddo’s school waits until after RD to announce. Which is frustrating from a planing perspective for sure.
Your best bet for rental cars is Costco. It’s about $50 for a standard car (all in) which is really cheap.
Wow. That is so surprising. That was not my experience at all when S24 had his intake at University of Denver. They even suggested additional accommodations, anticipating a college environment that S24 was not familiar with. Several friends at various colleges have reported that it has been collaborative and friendly for them as well to deal with the Disability Office.
I definitely know what you mean by the intense IEP meetings - sat through a few of those in elementary and middle school.
Yup was going to say this, Costco is great for car rentals. They also have hotels too although I have never used them for that.
Yeah, I am bracing for the CC to UC route. Expect the worst so it’s not disappointing.
In addition to admitted students day, folks may want to consider booking hotels (cancellation allowed of course) for first year move in/orientation week if they’ve narrowed their final choices to a couple of schools.
I went ahead and booked it already. Dates are known plus you get a jump on those who procrastinate. As discussed earlier, most hotels use dynamic pricing.
Okay, you are really ahead of the game! I haven’t done that yet because it’s possible the kid will leave early for band camp, and there are too many variables.
I did, however, book our hotel room for Rice graduation on May 9 at the end of September.
Now working on dinner reservations, but D22 wants to see if we can join the families of her three closest friends for dinner. I can barely corral my own nuclear family of five for dinner, so this doesn’t bode well. We’re gonna be doing Whataburger drive-through at this rate, lol.
Whataburger is absolutely the best. Ill probably see you on campus. Im going down there to help D24 move her stuff out of her dorm.
None of us care for their burgers, but D22 discovered that they start serving breakfast at 11 p.m. – she said the breakfast sandwiches really hit when you’re starving in the wee hours. ![]()
D26 said that in class today they had to vote on stuff for ‘seniors week.’ This means dress up stuff for each day of seniors week, which is the week of 2/2, I think or maybe the week before.
1 of the options she voted for was ‘anything but a backpack.’ ![]()
YES! I just got a bill for D26’s AP exams. They’ve got 3 of them listed, but are missing all her online AP courses. Luckily she’s the one that has to go sort it out, but why am I the discoverer of this?! (I’m the discoverer because the bill comes to me, lol!)
FWIW, I’m a pretty avid user of Turo. I’ve had good luck with renting cars through them both at home and while traveling. But the reviews, like with AirBnB are CRITICAL.
We just got my daughter’s financial aid offer from St Olaf and it IS AFFORDABLE!! I could cry. It’s less than her in-state public.
We still have a lot of schools to hear from - but this is a really good option academically that she likes! We haven’t visited but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it!
YAY!!! Wonderful news!
Congrats. Everyone on CC seems to rave about the school and the quality of education.
