Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Ok, so I was a little off on admissions news. Thought we were waiting until March, but she’s got a couple of decisions this month. D26 got into one of her likelies today - TCNJ! I hoped this would have come in December, but she’ll take it! As she noted, “I forgot this was coming today!” She’s more focused on weekend fun plans she has with her friends, lol!

I am losing my mind a little bit with the logistics involved in my parents’ move. I’m flying down Monday for the first steps in making it all happen.

But this weekend I was supposed to go on a girls’ trip – I’m still going to go for the first couple days and cut out early. My DH said I need to be sitting on a beach somewhere when this is all over, BUT instead, I booked a short session at a capybara cafe for this Sunday.

Because capybaras. And because you get to feed them and pet them and maybe even hold the little ones. My friends think I have lost my mind. Which, per my first sentence, is exactly the case.

But, capybaras!

They do not sound the same if you are from MA!!! I moved here and there was a whole discussion about how “Erin” sounds totally different from “Aaron” and I kept being asked to say them each one at a time and they sound exactly the same. In MA they sound different

Same and I have not planned anything yet b/c life is getting in the way. I feel like I am finally coming up for air and trying to catch up and be present here. But maybe some day…

Updates for D26:
Accepted Indiana University - Direct Admissions in Kelley School of Business - Public Policy Analysis major.

Accepted Purdue University Daniels School of Business - Quantitative Business Economics major.

Deferred (appears to be the large majority of EA applicants) University of Texas Austin - Mccombs School of Business (first choice), Jackson School Geosciences environmental sciences (second choice).

So far so good six schools; four acceptances in first choice school/major, one deferral to regular decision on Feb 15th, and one Wait List… which is likely a pretty hard decline but being ‘nice’ about it to the applicants.

UF next week, then UIUC and NCSU at end of month.

Her last two schools in Mid Feb and Mid March may become superfluous to her very quickly. (Hurray)

Congratulations!! I just went and looked up what public policy analysis is and now I want to go to school for that.

UT seems to have deferred even a lot of the instate auto-admits from certain majors.

I worked with a northerner who was able to pronounce “Mary felt merry because she was getting married,” in such a way that each word sounded unique from the others in a way that I haven’t heard anyone else from around the country be able to say.

That’s a phrase we used to say in speech class. (Former NYU drama major here!) and the standard American dialect has those nuances!

U of A finally released their decisions this evening. Don’t they know that I’ve been sitting here waiting for my kid to tell me ALL STINKING DAY?! :joy:

D26 got accepted into their honors college. WOO! Plus $6000 off of tuition, which brings down the tuition cost by 43%.

We are so totally stoked about this. UTulsa costs twice as much. My kid is going to U of A!
