Parents of the HS Class of 2026

S26 has seen several too. He is not interested in any of them. S24 was looking for a specific major. His search revolved around schools offering that major that might be affordable. S26 does not have a specific major in mind. He is adamant that he wants an urban school, preferably in the north.

If you visit a lot of schools, you almost become de-sensitized to the information session.

You start hearing the same messages of studying abroad, internship opportunities, dining hall swipe cards, Taylor Swift fan clubs (heard this on 3 different tours).

LOL! This is so true.

  • “Here’s our awesome rock climbing wall in our fancy rec center.”
  • “There are hundreds of clubs and student organizations to choose from! And if you don’t see one you like, you can even start your own!”
  • “We have an awesome Starbucks on campus.”
  • “Blah blah washers & dryers can be used with your student ID card with $$ you load onto it” or at the private schools “laundry facility use is free!”
  • “The rec center even has camping gear that you can rent for free (or low cost)!”
  • “Study abroad! Student research! Amazing opportunities!”
  • “Here’s the special seal or archway or whatever that you’re not supposed to touch or stand on until graduation or else the urban legend says that you won’t graduate.”

They should have 2 different information sessions:

Group A: Have you attended more than 5 information sessions/college tours?

Group B: Are you a newbie?

Group A, please go to the real information session. Group B, please step into the cliche auditorium.

D26 has seen tons of schools with D22 but now claims not to remember a single thing about any of them, except maybe the school D22 actually attends (where we’ve all been 4-5 times now). :person_shrugging:

Back when we started the process with D22, the big thing was zombies - every campus bragged about its Zombie Apocalypse Readiness Team or Zombie Hunters R Us or whatever. The first time, it sounded so creative and irreverent! By the seventh time, I was silently passing judgment on the creativity of the name while Googling “lunch near me.” Interesting that we’ve now moved on to Taylor Swift.

The next iteration will be the Travis Kelce fan club as a subset of the Taylor Swift fan club - which could dissolve before their 4 years in college are over.

My D22 must have toured the wrong colleges - we never heard of any Zombie or Taylor Swift clubs  :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Now the rock climbing wall might have swayed her …

S26 has been on only 2 tours with D22 and liked both back then. But since he doesn’t have her stats I don’t think he would get into the one she attends and the other one would be out of our budget. So we are starting over.

OMG HILARIOUS!! So true- at EVERY tour we went on. All of those verbatim :joy:

Just dropped my baby off for her first mock trial event. She is nervous as heck.

D26 tested positive yesterday for mono. :frowning: The poor kid feels like total poo, has been out of school since early Tuesday afternoon earlier this week. AND the trimester ends this coming Friday. Hoping that she’s well enough to go back to school on Monday. No fever or anything but the fatigue is really hard.

I’m so sorry for your D. I remember having it and the fatigue was no joke. Hope she gets over it quickly!

Does your DD also compete Allstar?

Mine does and is also Jr coaching a team.

She no longer does Allstar as an athlete, just as a coach. She does high school comp and sideline (varsity) for the fall season.

Oh no! hoping for a quick recovery! I’m taking my DD26 to the dr this week she has been exhausted- I mean EXHAUSTED- for awhile now - and struggling.

Nice- I was hoping we would go that route. But we started HS Gymnastics and switches all star gyms- lol!

DD26 is now interested in nursing; I’m sure this will change again  But for now she has researched local universities with nursing degrees. But is leaning towards starting at Community College to get her RN the cost savings is appealing to her. Anyone here consider CC for their kids?
