Parents of the HS class of 2027

twiddling my thumbs here, waiting on PSAT scores which should come out today, maybe?

Kid isn’t home yet, though.

It really matters, like not at all, but am curious.

That is really impressive! She is ready for senior year and college! Fingers crossed for her!

We are waiting on PSAT also. Where are the results?!?!

Our PSAT score is out! D27 very happy with her improvement. SAT tutoring begins this weekend with a boost in confidence which should help with SAT in December.

The Kid heard at school that three other kids got their scores. We are still waiting over here, and he is frustrated.

I don’t think my kid has heard either.

Or at least they haven’t told me, and I assume if they got a text/email they would tell me ASAP…(they are in their room - swamped with homework today!)

My DC was pretty down tonight about his PSAT score and his Algebra 2/Trig grades. He’s finding Alg 2/Trig honors challenging and since he’s the only junior in a class of sophmores, I think he’s feeling behind already. I feel for him but also think its a good opportunity to learn to ask the teacher for extra help and learn new study skills.

For a kid who is pretty quiet, he opened up a lot. Turns out, he’s very stressed about his grades (in fact, it is just the math grade that is really the issue, everything else is great) and class rank. He’s unhappy he’s not taking as many APs as he thinks he should this year as they are weighted and so he’s worried he will be falling back. Which will likely happen, but the fact is that he chose to do 2 band classes because he gets so much out of that (it impacted his ability to do certain other classes). I encouraged him to consider that his music involvement is probably more meaningful for him than being a few numbers higher in class rank, but he was in a funk. And my heart breaks seeing him sad.

D27 got her PSAT scores yesterday, and went down 90 points from last year’s score. She had said the day of the test that she thought she’d done poorly, and she wasn’t wrong (I mean, she didn’t totally tank it, but she went from National Merit Semifinalist being within the realm of possibility to it being a firm no).

I don’t really know what this means (except that taking a major standardized test the day before the school play opened (D27 had a big role on the crew) probably wasn’t fabulous timing). Our state gives all juniors the ACT in March. I think we’ll make her study hard for that and see what happens before we make any more decisions on whether she takes the SAT.

My kid also had a worse PSAT than the one last year. They are taking the SAT tomorrow as well. They have pretty much decided to only apply test optional already, and I think this seals it. They are a near straight A student (one A- so far) with decent rigor (not taking the hardest math, but still doing Dual Enrollment pre-calc), but very mediocre test scores.

Count me as another one with a kid who is disappointed with their PSAT score. I don’t know his exact score from this year - he was really unhappy and didn’t want to talk about it, so I didn’t want to push him. I don’t know if his score was actually worse than last year or if he was just disappointed that he didn’t do as well as he had hoped. He attends a high school where there are a lot of NMF students, plus D25 was a NMF and I know he compares himself to them. He did really well on the PSAT last year, so I think he was very hopeful about this year.

The Kid called the College Board about his missing PSAT score. They said he has two College Board accounts, one created by his school, and a personal account, and it will take 5-7 business days for them to combine the accounts. They have his score, she could see it, and they will not tell us the score over the phone. The wait continues.

Oh, that would kill me! I find that even when I really, truly don’t care what the score is, the not knowing drives me up a wall. I hope they get things figured out sooner rather than later!

The Kid thought that the PSAT was harder than his September SAT. We are looking forward to finally finding out his score.

My kid loves being on theater crew as well. He was an audio design lead for the fall play, and he is doing marketing for the spring musical.

Wow, was not expecting the email from the school counselor this morning but D27 did in fact qualify for NM. I hope this encourages her to study more. She didn’t get much out of her first tutoring session so will probably need a private tutor after the Dec. test. She does want to have a competitive SAT score to submit even though she could go TO at most of her schools.

That’s me!

I still don’t have my kids PSAT - hoping counselors give them out today, as 27 has an appointment for other things. Super curious!!

Their phone number didn’t work in the big futures app- I don’t think they added it when took the test, and 27 had never created a college board account (no APS at their school!)

I feel for those who don’t know the scores yet. Worrying about something that is out of my control is one of my weaknesses . I hope you get the scores soon!

Congratulations to your child!

Finally got scores! Better than expected if still not quite national merit.

kid was relieved, I think, as they really did poorly on a practice one in spring!

Glad you finally got the scores. It’s a relief to know. Testing is so stressful then to top it off with glitches makes it harder.

There was no school today so we made use of the free day with a college tour. It’s been a long day but very productive. It’s the third official tour and so far the favorite. We are planning a road trip for college visits for one of their breaks. We’ll see how it all pans out but they are now thinking they want to stay closer to home rather than 6-8 hours away. We’ll see.

We have a PSAT score! Over the summer, the Kid took the seven practice SAT tests put out by the College Board and went over the questions that he missed. He scored between 1510 and 1570 on these practice tests.

He took the actual SAT in September and got a 1590 (800 RW, 790 M). We were thrilled. The Kid ran down the stairs to tell us; he was so excited.

On the PSAT, the Kid got a 1480 (760 RW, 720 M). He literally collapsed on the floor out of surprise; he thought his score would be lower. So his selection index is 224, which is the cutoff for California for the current seniors. I guess we have to wait ten months to find out the cutoff for NMSF this year. We are happy and relieved to be done with the PSAT/SAT. The Kid is very smiley right now. He wanted me to add that emoji, by the way.
