Parents pay $1000 for weeklong "Boot Camp" to get ready for the "rigors of kindergarten"

And we thought college admissions was tough!

That is sad. I am sure the kids who don’t attend this camp will do just fine.

Sad. Let the kids be freaking kids.

It’s sad, and ridiculous!

I saw some neighbor kids playing out in their yard yesterday!! It makes me sad that I was surprised. :frowning:

My first thought was that if these parents spent time playing with their kids they wouldn’t need kindergarten prep. Instead they are probably foisted off on nannies.

OMG…Are you sure this isn’t from The Onion? Sadly I know it’s not.

I have new next door neighbors with a first and fourth grader…They are the first parents I’ve seen on my block who let their kids play out in front and ride their bikes without constant supervision in our remarkably safe neighborhood in ages. It is so great to see theses kids just playing and exploring on their own!

“Sad. Let the kids be freaking kids.”

And let the parents be freaking parents.

Do your job - play with them, read to them, talk to them, take them out in the world.

My first thought was along the same lines…just play with and read to your kids!

Some people have too much money and too much anxiety. Definitely first world problems.

A fool and their money are soon parted.

I wish I weren’t so honorable-the fools are making it so easy…

On the Westside, it’s a status symbol to do this sort of thing. More dollars than sense.

Moms & Dads, I’m available at $1200/hr as a private consultant to get your 2 - 3½ old child polished and ready to apply to KinderPrep.

Imagine the stress and anxiety facing these kids when they go through college admissions!

Makes you miss the good old days, when things were simpler…

B-)

This is straight out of a 30 Rock episode.

Parents are probably immigrants and will be arrested soon.

Good grief!

Dalton K-12 tuition is $44,640, so $25K for K as mentioned in the article is cheap.
I just checked on one NYC summer camp for 3-6, it is ~900/week. So 1000 for one week boot camp about the cost of a week of summer camp.

I think there are nannies who are much better at parenting than many parents. My kids were taken care of by nannies instead of at daycare. They were excellent caretakers of my kids and they played with my kids.
