Parents punished over ethnic cheating in exam

Some interesting insight into what can happen when you have a rigid one-exam one-chance objective admission system AND an explicit numerical boost on an ‘ethnic’ basis.

I wonder how much of “ethnic cheating” goes on in our system. I’m not talking about URMs who are middle or upper middle class checking the box (the propriety of which we’ve debated on another thread). I’m talking about people who may just downright lie.

Can you please post the source on the above article? Thank you.

I think we’d all agree that any system that grants any advantage for any particular trait whatsoever will be abused by someone. And since every system must grant some advantage for something, every system will have cheaters. It is absolutely inevitable. Only pure, Randian anarchy could be cheater-free, since there would be no rules, but few want that.

This is interesting. Last year the Tibetan riot was not well received by Han Chinese in China and abroad. One of the complains was that Tibetans are given special treatments. Tibetans, for example, do not have to abide by the one child policy. They are tax exempted, given free health care and free education. Their students also get easier access to higher education, a stipend, free books, clothing, board, and other school necessities.

I did not look into the details, but this article seems to suggest that it is all true.
