Parents tax issues

My parents became separated (not divorced) in 2013 and I moved out of state with my mother. Since then, my parents have not file taxes at all. I don’t know what my mom made in 2015 (my dad doesn’t help us financially at all and holds no custody over me) and, like I said, she didn’t file her taxes that year. (Or the following years). I don’t know if she made little enough to not have to file or what, and she has no idea where any of her income info is. I’m in a pretty sticky situation, and any advice would be appreciated

If you are applying for need based aid for the 2017-2018 school year, 2015 taxes will need to be filed by your mom for FAFSA purposes…OR she will need to complete a non-filers statement.

If for 2018-2019, 2016 tax return info will be needed.

If the taxes aren’t filed…and she was required to file…this WILL be an issue in terms of you getting federally funded need based aid.

How is your mom paying her day to day bills?

If you apply to a school using the Profile, your dad will also need to file taxes.

Re: income information…if your mom worked for someone else, she can request a duplicate w-2 form.
