Fourth year student here, and I have been accepted to medical school! I have had many interviews (including top tiered schools) and I’m still waiting for more news.
Every place that I have interviewed at has been very impressed with UVA’s undergraduate reputation, and rightly so. So happy to be going to one of my most highly ranked med schools
Just writing to give a little glimmer of how nicely UVA can prepare a student for medical school and how well respected it is nationally. Best of luck to all.

Congratulations powderpuff! Good for you. Best of Luck to you in your future. What med school will you be attending?

Hooray, powderpuff! That’s so exciting!

Great response Powderpuff, and gl at med school.

We should have more of these posts where people come back and say how it all worked out.

Thanks everyone for your kind messages!! I have to remain a little bit secret for my own sake. But I’ve had…a lot of interviews, so much so it has been daunting in dealing with school responsibilities!
Pre-med at UVA=results!!

Dear Dean J,

I’ve been communicating with you since I’ve been on this UVA thread while in high school.
Your messages are so appreciated, and to-the-heart. Thanks for being here always

The addition of Susan Salko, who is the main pre-med coordinator at the University Career Services office (UCS) at UVA, was genius!! She is organized, driven, honest, and caring. As regards to her frank honesty, she calls it as it is and depending on one’s credentials, she might not tell one what they want to hear–but I respect that. I base this on input she gave to a good friend of mine, which was kind of on the brutal side, but accurate, and my friend turned things around and as a result, is interviewing now!
IMO, Susan Salko is a tremendous asset to UVA in terms of truly helping in the success of UVA’s students. In fact, I really need to contact her and thank her for all her help. She was new to UVA last year, and I did have major concerns about a “new” person coming into such a pivotal position, but she is absolutely wonderful.

Powder, I don’t know if I missed something, but which medschool are you actually going to attend?

I’m still a 4th year student here at UVA and I need to remain anonymous so I cannot divulge where I have been accepted. In fact, I’m not certain yet that I will be attending this school, all I can say is that-- I’ve been accepted to one of my top choices! Let me say this though, I’ve had a good # of interviews, but many schools I have interviewed at will not give a response until spring 2011. Some med schools have rolling admissions, others are non-rolling and won’t give responses until early March. So we will just have to see!
The pre-med world, when it comes to 4th year at UVA is kind of a small world, so anonymity is a priority of mine, but I will share what I can. This is an on-going, live process for me right now!

UVAorBust,

I guess I did say “so happy to be going to one of my most highly ranked schools”, so I apologize that I gave the impression that I am actually attending this school.

This whole game is tricky. I have accepted their offer of medical school acceptance, but this can change as the game changes. Meaning that if I get accepted to somewhere else, that perhaps wants to give me a full ride merit scholarship (this has NOT happened) then of course my focus changes. There are a lot of things to weigh. As a Redskin football fan, the way I look at this, is that it is early in the first quarter, and I’ve already scored!! The game is not over yet, but I know the outcome
I still have to wait on responses from other schools. Jeez, what a roller-coaster!

congratulations, powderpuff! I remember my med-school applicant friends sweating out those last days in March–one guy would even sally forth trying to intercept the mail truck before it got to our house–so I can imagine your happiness and relief.

Thanks jingle,
I love your use of “sally forth”, nice!
Made me smile, and I’m sure in March 2011, I will be sallying forth {sic?} as well, out to the mail box

Way to go powder. Right now I’m kind of in the same situation (obv not with med school) but this whole college process is so so stressful.
