The dates for Parents Weekend have been announced. It will be the weekend of Oct. 23-25th. Activities are planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Highlights will be the SC vs. Oregon State football game and tailgate festivities preceding the game.

Sorority Presents, for new members of Greek chapters, will take place Sunday Oct. 25th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each chapter has been assigned a two hour time for individual ceremonies within those hours.

Thanks, Georgia Girl! Can you tell me more about presents for NMs? I’ve seen that most of the girls wear floor-length white dresses. I don’t have a car in LA…would there be any opportunities for me to shop for one once back on campus/after recruitment?

Many of the western chapters of national NPC sororities have a ceremony called “Presents”. At SC this is a Sunday event when the new members are presented to family members, relatives, fraternity members, alumnae officers and friends. Each chapter has slightly different customs. Some have a ceremony outdoors when each new member walks through a flower bedecked arch. Others have a custom of bestowing a flower crown on the new member. Most of the new members wear white dresses and other members wear black dresses. A sorority not on the SC campus, AOPi, on some campuses wear red dresses. It is usually followed by a reception, breakfast or luncheon depending upon the time assigned to that chapter. Many photographs are taken.
Do not worry about your dress now. There will be a big sister to help you find transportation to shopping areas. I do know that dresses are often loaned to new members by big sisters or members. By late October the new members have been inititated and received their badge of full membership. This event is to honor them.
Perhaps Ellebud can add to this as she is much more familiar with the latest fashions in the Los Angeles area as she has two lovely daughters, one a recent SC graduate.
