Are they a better assessment of academic readiness than the ACTs/SATs?

I think readers of The Economist would do well on this exam.

I was surprised there were no comments on this. It was an interesting exam. I particularly thought that the request to summarize a long essay into 150 words was interesting. Not something I’ve ever had to do before. I wondered if this was a common assignment in British schools. I also thought the one word essay topics was an interesting idea. I liked it a lot better than the SAT questions.

I think the summarizing is quite common assignment and is often in English test under the British education system. There is a special term for it but I forget what it is.

If my memory serves me well, Its been 30+ years! the term is call a precise (pronounced PRAY-SEE). I cannot recall the excact spelling.

I didn’t look because I am cluesless as to what LSE is and still don’t know even after looking at link

It’s the London School of Economics (and Political Science). The almighty wiki has an article if you’re interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_School_of_Economics

Not to hijack the thread, but I always just type the word in Word. The accent’s added, and then I do a copy paste onto CC. :)
