Looking at the online reporting of our student’s Jan SAT–

I am puzzled that the “self reported” GPA is .35 lower than the actual GPA…

Also our student believed to have not skipped questions yet one is marked “omitted” in the math and with a few errors in simple sections I am wodnring if our student missed a line and then mis marked…or mis gridded.

Whats the deal on the verification services? Is it worth it—?
Has anyone ever found errors that needed to be corrected?

Are there other add ons that make a difference–Like can I /should I get this Jan score and answers/verification in prep for th eJune date…

the gpa is based on whatever courses and grades the student puts down when s/he registers for the test. It can be updated anytime for succeeding tests. But easy enough to go online and check which courses and grades are represented.

Answer sheet can be valuable if planning on a retest.

Errors on simple questions are, unfortunately, common since strong kids zip thru it and fall for the ‘tricked-you’ answer, i.e, the correct answer is D/E which they would realize immediately if they thoroughly read all of the answers…but instead jump on answer A or B bcos it looks right and saves time.

Well the GC from the school tells me that the gpa is a self reported thing and probably a bubbling / grid error…however–its a “statistical gathering thing for ETS” and colleges dont see that …they only use the gpa on the transcript…

ordered the test report for our student to tighten up the silly errors

For my son the difference between 780 and 800 was a problem about how many tiles would cover a floor a certain number of square feet. I swear it was a problem a fourth grader could do. So aggravating! I think the verification service is worth it, though for the high scorer kid usually you’ll find the mistakes are careless - not they have any weak areas.

Self reported GPA is of no consequence - if it’s wildly different from the actual you might get mails targeted for a different caliber student.

I was wondering if the answer sheet and test questions were out yet from the January test? I thought I had paid for it when I signed DS up. I was able to see a copy of his essay. If the answer sheets and questions are out, how do I view them? My DS didn’t score well and I want him to go over his errors. I was able to view the report to see how many easy questions he got wrong, etc.

go to the college board site and check your son’s initial registration…
or see if there is a button on the bottom of the inital scores page for this Jan SAT that allows you to request the booklet and verifications.

in our case we didn’t order it the first time but have done so yesterday through the online payment method.
The site says that within 6 weeks of testing (if paid before the test) that you will have the materials…so they should be hitting your mailbo soon.

in the event you order them now–I believ its a 2-3 week delivery.
hope that helps.
