When I was in your shoes decades ago, my mother wanted me to go to a community college, and my dad argued for letting me go to a good college a couple hours away. My mother fell in line eventually. Yours will also. Just go to UT and it will all work out. You also might find out that once at UT, other careers interest you.
I’m so glad your dad has your back. I don’t think that rational discussions are going to change what’s going on in your mother’s head and heart right now. This is pretty deeply a part of who she is and she feels like you’re rejecting that. Standing your ground while being both emotionally strong and very loving to her may help her to come around.
