Particular Phrasing on Essay

Hi guys. I submitted my EA application a while ago, but I’ve recently become concerned about a certain phrase I used in my Why UChicago essay about the campus. The certain phrase was “…being a step away from the heart of the city would be …”. I know the campus isn’t a “step away” from the heart of Chicago, so would whoever’s reading my essay frown at this statement? Are my chances of admission worsened? Or am I just being paranoid, now that I’ve submitted my application?

Thanks, y’all.

Quit panicking. UChicago is practically a step away from downtown. As a student here, this statements feels accurate.

Those reading the essay will most likely know what you mean. The phrase doesn’t need to be taken literally, and U Chicago really isn’t too far from downtown anyway. Rest easy :)

Agreed, the phrase is just fine. (And much better than if you had used the awkward and repetitive phrase, “…a heartbeat away from the heart of the city.” ;-)
