Which colleges throw the best parties? Or have an amazing social life?
The answer to this question for you is going to depend on the kind of social life you are looking for. I know students at BYU who are so happy to finally have lots of alcohol-free social options, and that is not at all what other students are seeking. What is fun for you? Skiing, clubbing, surfing, shopping, fraternity parties, football games…there are lots of great options out there.
@siliconvalleymom all of the above. What I dont want is a high school social life where people just go to a movie or something boring like that. I don’t want a tame social life which is why I didn’t like pomona college.
lol…that’s not pomona’s social life at all.
Most colleges have parties, except for perhaps BYU indeed. The difference is whether a majority of students gets drunk or not, whether there are alternatives, whether they party on Friday-Saturday only (which is common in college) or on weekdays (which is a recipe for disaster).
(You may also want to check the number of alcohol-poisoning, alcohol-related hospitalization, Alcohol-related incidents involving police, etc.)
For example, I’m concerned with your characterization of Pomona…
If by “great party” you mean “lots of alcohol”, anywhere with lots of fraternities will have that.
What you need to think about is how long your parents will pay for you to get drunk on their dime.
If you’re going to college for the social life, you won’t stay in college long…
Because a school known for its parties tends to be a school where graduation rates are quite low - freshmen go to parties on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and are surprised they’re getting Ds and Fs, are put on probation, and can’t figure out what went wrong.
WVU and ASU are known for their parties, as are most of the SEC schools.
For stronger academics, Sewanee, DePauw, Denison, Rollins all have big parties to the point their president is publicly worried.
What are your stats (GPA, SAT/ACT, #APs/honors)?
If you’re not in the library or the lab 4-6 hours a day, your odds of graduating in 4 years are not good (2-3 hours of outside work for each hour in class is a rule of thumb in college, anything under 1-1 1/2 hour per class period or 16-20 hours of hw a week and you’re sunk.) If you put in the work and get B’s in every class (or see a tutor for every class where you got less than a B), what you do on Friday and Saturday evenings is then entirely up to you.
@MYOS1634 What I meant by parties is a work hard, play hard environment. I’m getting rid of USC because it is too much of a party school. Balance is key in college for me. I’m not looking to party a lot, just have fun in college since I want the 4 years of college to truly be an experience.
There’s no reason to avoid a school the size of USC because it’s a party school. USC is a great school and you’ll find that the majority of students who go there take academics seriously.
COLLEGES don’t have parties. STUDENTS have parties. Sometimes fraternities and sororities at the college host parties (for invited friends only, usually). Make friends…host a party, and maybe you’l get invited to a party.
