Party Scene

Has the party scene of 2017 gotten worst at UMass due to it becoming a harder school or did it become better???

Not really sure what you mean by better or worse. Party scene here has been about the same since 2012. This isn’t the same old ZooMass that you keep hearing about back in the 70s (burning bushes, smashing and flipping cars, ect.)

If you want to see a quick look at what it can be like, here’s us after the super bowl this year: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/02/06/this-what-umass-students-taking-part-peaceful-rally-looks-like/t5YnhBaOub5AaNo44xynWN/story.html

P.S: To anyone else reading this and actually don’t like having a huge party scene, don’t worry too much about it. The partying is definitely here, but it’s not like the entire school completely revolves around it (for the most part, Southwest is really the only big party hotspot on campus). You can easily avoid the party scene here and do just fine, and there’s really no pressure on you if you don’t like blasting music or drinking your hearts out. It’s just there if you want it.

The party scene at UMass-Amherst was always overrated. It’s not better or worse than any other university with 25,000 students. Southwest residential area happens to be overly populated, but there are several other residential areas that are very quiet. The great thing about UMass is there is so much else to do but party, mainly through UMass but also at the other campuses of the 5 college consortium. Many of my friends who went to small, liberal arts colleges found themselves revolving around frat and sorority parties with little else to do, which is definitely not the case at UMass. Most of the problem in the past at UMass were caused by friends of students who came to abuse in anonymity. Most of the over-partiers don’t last long and are gone after freshman year.
