<p>Does a school’s reputation for partying affect recruiting/job placement? </p>
<p>When I mention to someone older than me that I am probably attending UMiami, they always smile at me funny and say, “thats a big party school.” The school has become less of a party school over the years and more academically distinguished; however I worry that the school’s old rep for being a party school will be a problem with recruiting and finding a job after college- especially because the age of people recruiting are the UMiami=party school generation.</p>
<p>I have no official statistics on this issue, but I’d have trouble believing it doesn’t. I know a lot of students at Michigan State University are outraged that their classmates keep rioting because they feel it is cheapening their education.</p>
<p>Obviously, a lot of really intelligent, motivated, hard working students go to schools like UMiami and Michigan State. There are programs within such schools that hold their own with any in the country. Nevertheless, I can’t imagine as an employer not having a tinge of doubt as to whether this person is one of those students or one tearing down a stop sign.</p>
<p>Vanderbilt is a huge work hard play hard school. Most employers recognize this and try to snatch up grads all the time as they’re some of the most well-rounded out there. Nobody likes socially awkward co-employees.</p>
<p>yea but vanderbilt has nothing on UM… if I told someone I was attending vanderbilt, the first thing that would come to their mind definitely would not be that it’s a party school.
I am worried that recruiters may question students’ reasons for attending UMiami - they might think that they are spoiled kids whos parents are paying huge money for them to go because they want to party (not the case with me - EFC = 40 & given scholarship)</p>
<p>Whether a school is known for being a party school or not does not impact recruitment activity on campus. Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke and Williams have huge party scenes that rival Miami’s. Recruiters come down on their campuses like buzzards on a meat wagon!</p>
