Pass/Fail on College Transcripts

Does anyone have a ‘P’ (Pass) on their college transcript? How do graduate schools look at these scores?

Depends on what it is. If it’s in your subject of major, they’ed rather see an A, but as long as there are not that many P’s, it’s fine. If it’s in a subject other than the one you’re going to study, well, actually if it’s outside of the field of study, as in humanities for science students, sciences for humanities students, they probably won’t care that much. If you have NPs, there might be problems. Just don’t take too many P/NP classes and you should be fine. Law schools don’t like em, counting P’s as nothing and NP as F’s, but a few won’t hurt you there, either. Med schools and business schools, I don’t know.

I just took my first pass/fail course this semester. My school allows up 2 four full credit courses to be taken p/f, but none are allowed within the department of your major.

Passes are totally fine, providing they are out of the area of your major, which many schools require. They are excellent for exploring something that is not your strong suit.

I agree with DRab–one or two passes outside of your major are perfectly fine. Having more than a couple starts smelling a little suspicious (was s/he trying to do as little work as possible?).
