Attempting to transfer from CC has been a complete emotional rollercoaster. Basically I recently began looking into private schools, as my state schools just announced a freeze in spring applicants. Now i’m applying to schools with late deadlines for fall.

My Fafsa is complete however I just found out what a css profile is , as well as the 2.5 month past deadline for FA through the CSS profile. With an EFC of 0 I am in desperate financial need.

My question is, am I completely out of luck for aid? And if accepted, may I defer admission to the Spring so that I may receive financial aid at that point??

Are you talking about one particular school? Not all schools want CSS profile and the schools with late deadlines should not have their financial aid deadlines before application deadlines. If you are talking about a particular school that you were already accepted to, then I think you should call the financial aid office and ask them about your financial aid possibility ASAP. Normally the financial aid is offered for the academic year and delay your attendance until Spring probably won’t change the financial aid, but again please call the FA office, they can make an exception if they really want to.

I think you should spell out your specific situation in a clearer manner than this. Are you being denied because of lateness or just sent in the CSS late and wondering what will happen?

PS: Each school has its own requirement for supporting documents for financial aid. You need to check each school policy and deadlines. Not all schools will require CSS, if they do and the application deadlines have not passed, then most likely the CSS submission deadlines also should not have passed.

Why not give yourself a little more time to be thorough and organized in your application approach, and wait to apply next winter for Fall 2012 admission? You would give yourself more time to research schools that could offer you the best aid as a transfer. You would be more satisfied with your choices in the long run. Work while you aren’t in school to build your savings. You would lower your stress level tremendously!

Thanks for the replies. Financial Aid office for the school I’m applying to said it’s not a problem. Yes TTparent I was confused as to why the CSS deadline was well before the regular transfer app deadline. Apparently the deadline refers to incoming freshman/early decision transfer deadlines. So there is still hope for Fall!

Teachnmom-very good advice. This last minute (forced) change of plans has been really stressful. I suppose if this does not pan out, i’ll at least have the time to become organized for the next go around.

It does depend on the school and what funds they have left. Transfers tend to get what is left over anyways at most schools. That you are late does not help either, but except on an individual basis, no one can say, one way or the other.
