Passing on Exeter admission?

I am applying for Exeter for fall '11. At this point, I have completed all the application steps - I’m very confident on being accepted. However, just this past week, my father had open heart surgery after finding 3 blockages over 90%.

My question is, if I am accepted and decline attending this fall (which I will, to be with family), will I be able to just delay my admission until 12’? Or do I have to start all over again?

Unfortunately, I would assume that you would have to apply again for a spot next year even if you are accepted this year. But I am certain that the school will be very sympathetic to you if you explain in your essays or interview your father’s condition. I am very sorry for him by the way, I hope he recovers quickly and without complications.

I am terribly sorry for your father’s condition right now :(. I hope things get better. I am not sure but I think Exeter may be willing to delay your admission, but I would definitely call to make sure after you receive your admissions decision. For the record, though, I was accepted to Exeter for the 9th grade and decided not to go because I wanted to spend more time at home with my family, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
