Path to Medical School through Pre-Med Post Bacc Programs

It’s my understanding that UPenn’s Post-Bacc program has an agreement/guaranteed acceptance into several medical schools, provided a certain MCAT score is attained. For me, that would be a big factor in my Post-Bacc program selection.

I think you’re referring to linkage agreements (http://www.sas.upenn.edu/lps/postbacc/pre-health/features/linkages) they usually require more than just an MCAT score, and as stated on the website, it’s up to the medical school, not Penn’s post-bacc, to determine the requirements.

Based on students who have attended those programs, the guarantee is only for highly ranked attendednts to get an interview from one of those “partners”, it’s far from being admitted outright.

Besides, there are two types of students who attend these structured post bacc programs:

  1. Non-science students who did not have enough BCMP credits wants to catch up.
  2. Science students who want to do GPA repair.

For type 1. students, if you have good GPA in UG to start with and if you do well in the post bacc, the chances to succeed is much higher than the type 2 students.

Most of the kids I know were the Type 2 students, I have not heard any good news, fingers crossed for them in this up coming cycle.
