When I do the estimator at the student aid.gov site, it’s showing me a pell of $7235 with a family of 5 and $80,000 income.
Anyone else’s kid getting this message: “Your information is still being verified by the Social Security Administration. This process usually takes one to three days. If you provided an email address when you created your account, we’ll send you an email confirmation once your information is verified.” ? Should I worry that he apparently needs extra special verification?
That to me, is a huge benefit - the 2024-25 FAFSA does not ask for pre-tax deductions to be added back - like 401K and FSA/HSA contributions. Interestingly, if you contribute to a personal IRA those amounts are added back in.
Hello Everyone. I’m asking for some help here. I cannot get passed step 6 “Confirm & Verify” in creating an account from the invitation from my daughter. Has anyone else seen this issue? Thanks.
In my statement above, I neglected to consider that various numbers may be subtracted from (or added to) income first, so my numbers would apply to income after those adjustments. (Also student could give a negative contribution to SAI.) So even higher gross incomes could get this aid, as your example shows.
I have no idea how accurate the estimator is, since I haven’t been able to finish ours yet; I’m hoping it’s accurate, though, as we’d come out better than the past few years if it is!
My daughter invited us as she is US Citizen and eligible for fafsa applying 2024-2025 form
My son is non US Citizen comes under international student and is not eligible for fafsa didn’t apply and also CSS profile last year wasn’t submittee while he was applying for schools last year.
Under my daughter CSS profile this year added sibling details as international fee details on it
I am concerned how do they calculate and provide for my daughter application as our all tax filing is from Canada since last 12 years
Yes we have on parent account as we are first time created account but able to fill the form on parent section
My daughter when she created her account had same msg
If you have created today student account then wait a day and try again would be able to open the form and fill
You can follow the calculation line by line on this draft form https://fsapartners.ed.gov/sites/default/files/2022-11/202425DraftStudentAidIndexSAIandPellGrantEligibilityGuide.pdf
It’s from late 2022, but it matches exactly with the SAI we were quoted after submitting FAFSA.
For us, that estimator was only approximate.
We also made a huge mistake. Dh and s24 completed the form. They left out all figures for which I am the sole owner, including s24’s 529. They thought that I had to submit the information via my own account.
That is a very realistic mistake - if there is an assumption that both parents and the student fill out the FAFSA. Husband would think I will list the assets I own, and wife will list the asset she owns, and those assets will be combined in the system.
And not trying to dump on the FAFSA roll out, but it is breathtaking the amount of incorrect info floating out there.
Just update the information.
This is a known issue, apparently, for those parents without an SSN. I think maybe this is what you are talking about? At this time, there is no fix, so you’ll need to just keep trying:
PARENT WITH NO SSN UNABLE TO START FAFSA FORM FOR STUDENT OR CONTRIBUTE TO AN EXISTING FORM (Added Jan. 4, 2024)
Status: Open
Description: If a parent with no Social Security number (SSN) starts the 2024-25 FAFSA form for a student, the parent will receive an error message on the “Student Information” page. This incorrect error message states that the user is “unauthorized to act on behalf of the student since they already have a 24-25 FAFSA form” even if the student has not started an application. A parent with no SSN also is not able to contribute to the form, even if the student starts the application and invites the parent to contribute.
Workaround: There is currently no workaround for a parent without an SSN. A student may start the application, but the parent will not be able to contribute the parent information. The student and parent will be able to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA form online once the issue is resolved.
We will update the data as soon as the form is out of processing.
So we tried this afternoon and when my daughter tried to invite me it says my information is wrong. They ask for birthdate, SSN, name, email. When I log into my FAFSA account (from previous years) all my info looks fine (I can only see the last four of my social but assuming they would have picked it up in past years if it was wrong). So there’s nothing wrong or unmatching in what she’s entering in the invite. Anyone else run into this? We tried from two different computers. I’m stumped.
Erase your address. You should be able to proceed. Then return to the address part & enter it before you submit.
I’m guessing she had to enter your information into her form. Look at what she entered & see if something doesn’t match. You can fix it in her form if it doesn’t.
Yes we did it together. All the info is correct. We erased and added it multiple times.
We started with her form based on info here. When it didn’t work after multiple tries I tried to start from my account and it says there’s already a form started which I don’t have permission to view.
That’s because due to the simplification language Congress passed, only items on the tax return are considered. It’s one of those some win/some lose things.
