Here’s the post 202
Thank you! I am not looking for anything super accurate, just wanted to get ballpark numbers for the spreadsheet.
I am not sure I’ve seen a single NPC that HAS been updated for 24-25, at least not at the schools S24 is considering. For example the SUNY NPC says it won’t be updated until “late Spring 2024” which I’m guessing will likely be after we receive FA offers. So we just wanted something to use as a loose point of comparison while we wait.
Thanks! I tried by not adding address info in step 3. Then in step 6 i did add the address and the user interface does the same action as step 3, it just scrolls up without an error. I cannot save the contact information update in step 6.
I’ve also tried in step 6 without any address info and still the continue button does nothing.
I am facing the same problem…not letting me pass the address stage even after skipping.
Turns out that my DOB was entered incorrectly on the student’s side and when trying to change it , it claimed that i had an existing account which i don’t. Passed it to my spouse and she was able to use the “no address” approach and she was able to create an account.
Same here
Is this the general thread for FAFSA questions? If so, I have two, and my apologies if they have already been addressed somewhere in this long thread…I did not have the fortitude to read it all. Hopefully these are easy questions for those who are smarter about these things than me:

D filled out her section, I filled out my section. At the end of my section it said something about my spouse also having to fill out a section and it asked for contact information, which I provided, and saw that it said it would send an email invitation to him to fill out his part. He never received any such invitation and, if fact, right now the FAFSA is showing as “submitted” so it doesn’t look like the form is waiting for him to fill anything out. Is this going to be a problem? Was he in fact supposed to get an email invitation to fill something out? If so, what do we do at this point now that it says “submitted”?

Do I recall correctly that the old version of the FAFSA asked about housing plans - whether the student intended to live in the dorm, live off campus, or live at home with parents. I didn’t see that this time. How does that information get entered into the financial record as that response should be part of how aid/need is determined, no? Thoughts on that?
Did you and your spouse file a joint tax return? If so, you had to provide information about them, but nothing will go to them (you entered everything necessary for both of you). If you did not file a joint return, they should have received an invitation.
The housing question is no longer asked, but it is even more important in the cost of attendance calculation than it used to be (due to new federal regulations). However, that information actually has nothing to do with FAFSA, so it was eliminated as part of simplification. Schools will handle that part on their end as part of the student’s budget as they apply federal and institutional aid in a financial aid package.
Ah OK. Yes, we filed jointly. I was confused because I thought the message on the FAFSA when I filled out his contact info said that they were going to send him an invitation to also fill something out - but really what other info could he have added since our assets are shared and we filed jointly? OK, good to hear that this was just my confusion and not actually an issue.
So no place I need to report this, unless the school asks us? Good to know!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help!
I was actually surprised that they asked for the other parent information, given that they don’t actually need it for most students. I would think that it would be skipped unless it’s actually needed (based on marital status & tax filing questions).
Everyone (with a parent spouse) gets that question and I think it is very confusing! All sorts of threads on FB of people saying their spouse never got an email. Good news, the purpose of that question was to confirm that your spouse is the same person as on the tax return.
I think it’s a misleading question and implies that the spouse will be getting an email when in fact it is being asked to confirm identity.
Submitted on 1/2. On my end says in process. On my sons end do not show a timeline.
He did get this though after I submitted it.
I haven’t received mine yet. Did you get your SAI the same day you filled out the forms?
Email should have gone to the students address listed - ours came very quickly after submission. It does say “ESTIMATED SAI” - sort of a pre-processed number.
I see it now. It says the SAI cannot be calculated. Shoot, I don’t understand what that means.
We got the same. I think ours is due to the new FSA ID for the student. The original email said that it would take several days to verify the SSN so until then we couldn’t sign
The puzzling part of this to me is how the FAFSA would allow a submission without a signature. It seems basic that the system would require a signature before accepting the submission.
As much as the past ten days have been a FAFSA cluster, I really wonder what is going to happen come the end of January when the submissions are processed. Will half be rejected for signature issues, or checking the free lunch box, or a myriad of other possible situations? Will millions try and log on the same day to make edits?
And are there thousands out there blissfully thinking their FAFSA is safe and sound and correct and will be hit with some snafu. (I’m fully prepared that something will happen to both of mine)
My final thought is how the underserved are handling the FAFSA. Most of the FB and CC folks are educated persons who are trying to navigate a tricky new system, and many of them are frustrated and throwing their hands up. I just can’t imagine that this year’s submission numbers will end up higher than in past years.
Oh no, I must have messed up, I didn’t get a free lunchbox.
Excellent catch.
