Patience, all - update on 2024-25 FAFSA

There is no information anywhere whatsoever, except that it is “still in progress”

Same

At this point I want to start a brand new form. Should not take long and at least I will triple check and print exactly what I am filling out. I just don’t trust whatever is going on with the completed one and who knows when it will be reviewed. Many applicants have received “Completed” status a day after submitting - mine has “no signs of life”.

The problem is what assumptions they use to build the NPC. The rules just changed. I know people with kids already in school who are calling the financial aid office and asking what’s going to happen. They have no idea. That leads me to believe the person programming the NPC probably doesn’t either.

There should have been an email that went to the students address with the “we’ve received your submission and your preliminary SAI is:$$”.

S23 received this email to his account with an actual dollar amount - sounds like some people are getting responses saying it can’t be calculated.

Unable to find that SAI# anywhere on the FAFSA website though - just in that email.

Yeah we got the ‘couldnt be calculated due to lack of signature’, but it has since been submitted and nada. Seems like there should be a spot on the site for SAI but I guess not. Ugh.

I am also waiting for the form to be processed. I am hoping that one of these calculators are accurate:
Federal Student Aid or 2024-25 Student Aid Index (SAI) Calculator – College Money Method

Since I got the same numbers from both of them as I did working my way through the directions on the paper form and instructions that someone posted in another thread, I am cautiously optimistic that the estimator is correct. However, I still worry about the potential of an unpleasant surprise when my kids’ FAFSAs are actually processed.

My wife is one of those lucky people who has never had loans, so no FAFSA account. We are trying to set up a new account for her so we can complete the app for S24. Everytime I get to Step 7, “unknown error occurred, please close your browser and start again” pops up.

Anyone else has this problem?

Does this help?

PARENT OR SPOUSE CONTRIBUTOR WITHOUT FSA ID ACCOUNT PREVENTED FROM CREATING ACCOUNT WHILE SSA MATCH IS PENDING (Added Jan. 4, 2024)

Status: Open

Description: If a user invites a parent or spouse who does not already have an FSA ID account to contribute to a 2024-25 FAFSA form and that contributor attempts to create an account before the contributor’s Social Security Administration (SSA) Match changes from Pending to Full Match, the contributor receives no error message explaining this situation and is prevented from proceeding past Step 3 of the Create an Account page on StudentAid.gov.

Workaround: The parent or spouse contributor can delete the Mailing Address entered on the Create an Account page and then proceed. The contributor’s address can be added to the account via Settings after the account has been created. Alternatively, the contributor can wait until the SSA Match status is Full Match and try again to create an account.

Thank you. But tried that and got us from Step 5 to 7, but at the last stage, still was a no go.

I don’t know if this will help, but I ended up completely deleting mine, waiting a day, then having D24 invite me and following that link. This was about a week after getting the “successful” email from creating my FAFSA ID.

It seems to be taking a lot longer than they state to get to full match (will not calculate/submit properly if it isn’t), and they are also not sending the email they say they will when it does get to full match status. I may have gotten lucky that my full match had come through in that time frame.

Thank you for the suggestion. My wife doesn’t have an account to delete. I think we will have to wait until some magic happens for this “Full Match” to occur.

I don’t think there are any rule changes that would affect CSS schools very much. They are giving students institutional grants with their own money. I ran the NPC with 10 or so schools, and I was very comfortable with the numbers given - I think only one had a big disclaimer that it wasn’t up to date.

A lot of people found that if they skip the mailing address and just enter email and phone it will work. You can add the address later. Worked for me. That may be the issue.

@OregonMom2024 did your daughter ever receive her ID … it’s been 6 days for my son and he still has not received his FSA ID.

Nope, it just says it’s under review since Jan 3. We also never got the SAI number.

@kelsmom @oregonmom2024 My kid never got an SAI # either. I wonder if the folks that are receiving SAI had previously received financial aid,and those of us whose kids are seniors in HS (Class of 2024) do not get the SAI yet.

Son is senior and we did FAFSA for first time. We got SAI # in email immediately after submitting.

We did create our FSA IDs in October.

Thanks. When did you submit the FAFSA?

I’m usually able to offer an opinion, but I am just clueless on the issues this year. I guess we have to sit tight until the FAFSAs are processed in a couple weeks.
