[The Associated Press: Legendary actor Paul Newman dies at age 83](http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hEOiFzC0uwlunNsBMhhe8Lk2zoswD93F3T8G0)

rip…

Great man, great actor. He will be missed.

From the AP article:

Not only starred in many of my favorite movies, but just a good, good man. And funny, too.

A great actor and a man who did a lot of good.

A legendary screen actor–he will be missed.

Very sad news. He was a great actor and philanthropist.:frowning:
I had read, recently, that he was ill, but I had hoped that he would pull through.

So sad. He was an excellent actor, philanthropist and was easy on the eyeballs :)

My first crush–I had his picture over my bed all through high school. May he rest in peace.

The current crop of self-centered movie stars look pretty pathetic compared to him.

I’m sad. I had a life-size black-and-white poster of him in my room in high school and college. He was a great actor. Now I want to revisit all his movies. His belief in giving back was inspiring. And he and Joanne Woodward were married so many years.

Great actor. Class act. RIP.

Very sad. He was a wonderful man.

Just saw that and it really made me sad…

race car driver

salad dressing… (actually have a jar of his peach salsa in the fridge, but to me he will always be salad dressing)

and of course a wonderful actor. :(

I always thought Paul Newman was wonderful. On and off the screen. Also, one of the best-looking men I’ve ever seen! He kept his looks, and those piercing blue eyes, to the end.

He and Joanne Woodward lived for a number of years in the apartment building where I grew up, on East 67th Street in Manhattan. I used to see them in the elevator on occasion.

Donna

Actually, we all look pretty pathetic compared to him.

He was not only a great actor, but a great director, racer (won national championships) and a great entrepreneur. His philanthropy was legendary.

And he tied all up in a bow of wry irony and self-deprecation.

His gorgeous looks became an afterthought in describing him.

And all around mensch.

Donna, but an odd coincidence, I lived in the apartments he lived in with his first wife and played with his son, Scott when we were both less than 2. Never met either parent, according to my mom, because he had a nanny.

…sigh…

What a man, what an actor and what a beautiful example of how to be married.

I like this remembrance by Dahlia Lithwick in today’s edition of Slate where she talks about Paul Newman and his Hole in the Wall Gang camps for seriously ill kids. One of my young relatives had a chance to attend one of his camps and I will always love Paul Newman for that.
